Baby names

shortlist of names - help needed

down2earth · 19/08/2009 22:53

3rd child expected in 2 weeks and remains nameless.

We have a sort of shortlist (although we are not both entirely happy with any of them)and would appreciate your thoughts (feel free to be brutal!) as well as any other suggestions for traditionalish names.

Ideas so far are:

Archie
Hugh
George

All help appreciated!

I like Hugh.
George and Archie are a bit overused at the moment.
Richard and John I like too.

George is my favourite name for a boy (dd would have been George).

How about Henry?

What about Richie instead of Archie? It is less trendy and more classic and so rarer.

I like George and Hugh but they aren't that exciting. Hughie is quite cute.

love george, never quite warmed to hugh though as it sounds like eugh < ducks behind bush and hides from mnetter with ds named hugh> benjamin, lucas, toby, harry, charlie, horace or on the untraditionalish side jonty, griff, marmaduke or valentine...

Unfortunately Richie not an option as our sirname is Richardson so he may be confused with the cricketer!

Agree they're not exciting - think that's why we feel stuck - existing ds called Ben - quite like Jonty but pretty sure I won't get it past dh!

I've just been on babynames.co.uk and gone through all of the bors names to get my very long list, though I noticed that it didn't have some on it that I like, and Hugh and Archie are on my list. George is dd's doll's name so perhaps not such a good idea for me though I think it's a nice name.

Atticus
Arthur
Caleb
Fregus
Fraser
Nicholas
Patrick
Rufus
Seymour
Toby
Winston

are all also on my list now as well as many others.
My dp will undoubtedly diss them all and not come up with any of his own suggestions .

George is best. I don't like Archie-it is short for Archibald, although no one seems to use the full version these days-I'm not surprised. Hugh is OK.
