Gertrude?

DH and I love the name Gertrude, but my mum said she thinks it's awful - I said that lots of Victorian names are coming back, but mum says 'Yes, but only nice ones'. Come on, be honest - is it really an awful name? It would be Trudi for short.

Hmmm, the only Gertrude I know is a bitter, mean old bitch so it is a bit coloured for me!

Oh. Actually 'dirty Gertie' has really put me off. I grew up being called 'Fatty Cattie' and would hate to impose that on anyone else. And I wasn't even fat. Thanks for pointing that one out.

But since I've never heard of Sting's wife, and can't actually remember who Sting is (fields of gold?), that doesn't put me off Trudi.

I didn't think of Dirty Gertie, my first thought was Hamlet, weirdly enough, but I don't find it a very attractive sounding name in any case.

hmmm... Gertie is so fugly that it's bound to be urban chic but that's all it has going for it.

I have a cousin called Trudy and her sister is Zelda. I've always LOVED the name Zelda and pitied her sister Trudy.
