Genevieve was a 1960s film involving some sort of car race - London to Brighton? The car was called Genevieve. Lots of people will immediately think of the film. It is a nice name, though.

DD (9years) has a friend at school called Genevieve - it suits her. I like it though don't think I would use it myself.

when I've seen the name used, the number of nicknames is huge, ranging from Gen to Genny to Johnny-viv(after someone pronounced the name in the correct French way) to spearmint Jenny. Whatever name you have people will shorten it somehow and you just have to hope you get a nice one

I think it has to go with your surname. It is a lovely name but perhaps wouldn't suit all English surnames. Will get shortened to Jenny, Gennie.

I have a Genevieve. I don't get the obsession with shortening names and she has never been Jenny. Everyone said when she was born "she'll be Jenny at school" but she wasn't. (she is now 22)

Spelling is easy - Gen ev ie ve. She was writing it at 5 no problem.

Genevieve was a young girl who saved Paris from Attila the Hun by praying. So nice name for a nice girl. The English version is Guinevere - not bad either if you ignore the adulterous connotation...
