Baby names

Alice or Julia?

Hi, I would appreciate honest opinions!

Am a bit torn between.. Alice, Isabel and Julia for expected DS who turns out to be a probable DD....

What do you think? My hesitation with Alice is that it is becoming more popular and isn't really that exciting, Isabel = already very popular but I like the nn Izzy, Julia= would it seem strange on a baby?

Yeah I think the real question is Alice or Julia.. suprised so many people like Julia I thought may be hated!!

I think Alice is very pretty, had it arrived say a week ago it would have been Alice, but then I was driving past a sign (bizarre) today to work and saw 'Julia' and realised I really like it, DH prefers isabella (I vetoed for frilliness and popularity) and then Julia, he says.. aaargh

well, not that I'm biased, but DD is called Isabel, and if we have another she will be Alice, after my great-grandmother!!
(but also have vv good friend called Julia).

There, that was helpful,. wasn't it?!!

They are all fab. I have not met any baby Alices in RL but I know of a few online. They are all lovely None stick out as being particularly common or uncommon. I know a 4yr old Julia and I think its nice on a little one.

What about Alicia? compromise between Alice and Julia

I think all your choices are lovely. I would tend to use Alice as a middle name. Julia Alice is lovley.

loumacca I like Julia Alice! I hadn't even thought of that (duh?)

mais DH loves the name Alicia but I would hate it to be pronounced 'aleesha'

Do you think a Julia should be dark and an Alice should be fair? or would it not matter? I am dark, DH fair, could be anything...!

My dd is Alicia, like you I don't like Aleeeesha, I think my dad had the hardest time trying to pronounce it but my gran(90 years old) got it right first time!

Annnyyhooww... Alice or Julia? My dd would have been Alice but a close neighbour has a dd Alice so thought I couldn't have same really, so I do like Alice but being really unhelpful here, I like Julia too.

My daughter is Sophie Alice and she is dark like me but was born with very fair hair! Don't think it matters. Maybe you are thinking of Alice in Wonderland?

Julia (and Juliet) was also one of the names on our list

Alice - beautiful name, eve though I have know two unpleasant Alices I still love the name, which says a lot doncha think?!

Julie also nice, but not as cool as Alice - it just has a wonderful ring to it - don't think is TOO popular either

I had to pitch in and say that when you are a young nervous child and they go round the class asking what your name is, "Julia" is really difficult to say - but in my very unbiased opinion it is a lovely name

I am Scottish and find Julia difficult to say properly.

Not that keen on Alice, Isabel and Julia are much nicer. Although Isabel is as popular as Alice. More perhaps. I like Annabel too. And tbh, I prefer Juliet to Julia, but of your options, definitely Julia I think.

Hmm DH likes Annabel, but alas my mother is named Ann and I'd rather avoid naming anyone after her!!!

I never considered Scottish pronunciation, I can now hear it in a glasweigan accent and am not sure !

Still thinking Isabel as well.. is it so popular that it is unusable now or do you think it is classic enough to withstand a popularity surge and not sound awfully dated in 10 years time?
