annie896 Tue 30-Jun-09 14:20:25

I don't like it either.

MamaLazarou Tue 30-Jun-09 14:23:48

It's horrendous.

AuntieMaggie Tue 30-Jun-09 14:25:47

KNow of about 3 babies that have been called this in recent months

sleepsforwimps Tue 30-Jun-09 14:42:25

I like it, I was at Art College with a Rafferty, Raff for short, I always thought it sounded mighty cool.

Worzsel Tue 30-Jun-09 14:43:00

Meglet Tue 30-Jun-09 14:45:23

its ok.

muddleduck Tue 30-Jun-09 14:46:24

I didn't

then I got to know one (DS1's friend)

now I do smile

loobylu3 Tue 30-Jun-09 16:08:54

No, sorry. Raphael is gorgeous though.

Hmmmm....As a rule I'm against surnames as first names but I can't help liking this one!

So I say yes!

boodleboot Tue 30-Jun-09 16:35:49

sunshinejanuary Tue 30-Jun-09 17:08:08

i like it

Mutt Tue 30-Jun-09 17:09:07

Trying too hard.

I like it but DH has vetoed it on the basis it is "too irish" hmm

NotKeenOnFish Tue 30-Jun-09 19:43:02

Why do you all hate it?

I like it - and I like Ralph/Rafe.

piscesmoon Tue 30-Jun-09 19:56:39

It is very Irish, but I hate Ralph or Rafe too. I think it would be a good name for a cat.

Kayzr Tue 30-Jun-09 19:57:54

I really like it.

ShowOfHands Tue 30-Jun-09 19:59:07

It's a lovely name.

traceybath Tue 30-Jun-09 20:00:05

I think its nice. Only reservation would be i think sadie frost has a child called this.

missmem Tue 30-Jun-09 22:03:16

Uber posh, so if you are and send DS to private school then you'll be fine! wink

mrswoolf Tue 30-Jun-09 22:26:16

I like this (but wouldn't use personally). I've heard of one or two, I wonder if it is on the rise.

angelene Tue 30-Jun-09 22:31:31

I love it but DH has vetoed it because it would remind him of some golfer.

One of Jude 'n' Sadie's kids is Rafferty I think.

NotKeenOnFish Wed 01-Jul-09 11:40:13

Sarah Beanie also has a son called this. We are not uber posh, or indeed any sort of posh, do you think this is a problem?

MamaLazarou Wed 01-Jul-09 11:55:28

Yes. You have to be posh to have a son called Rafferty. His top hat and monocle will look out of place otherwise.

hulabula Wed 01-Jul-09 12:47:02

I quite like Rafferty/Raff.

minouminou Wed 01-Jul-09 14:57:24

Not mah bag....but then my opinion isn't worth v much on the subject of names!

Issy2008 Fri 10-Jul-09 20:47:50

Love it! x

dizzydixies Fri 10-Jul-09 21:10:22

I like it, was a contender for ours but we had girls - tis MIL's maiden name so we had the family connection too

KerryMumbles Fri 10-Jul-09 21:14:32

yeah ok

serin Fri 10-Jul-09 21:29:07

What Bunny said smile

PestoMonster Fri 10-Jul-09 21:41:51

Just gorgeous!

ADealingMummy Tue 14-Jul-09 19:14:42

I like it . It's the name of Jude Law's son.

MrsToffeeCrisp Tue 14-Jul-09 21:26:09

Really like it, but couldn't convince DH. Think it's a fab name.

thell Thu 16-Jul-09 11:34:28

Not one I would choose, but I do like it

Boodlerpoop Thu 16-Jul-09 11:43:50

I love it

jammydonut Wed 22-Jul-09 08:05:58

I adore the name Rafferty but I think you need a one-syllable surname for it to work. If you like it - go for it!

sybilfaulty Wed 22-Jul-09 08:13:23

Sarah Beeny and Johnny Vaughan have a son called this. Not the same son, though.

Personally I'd go with Raphael / Rafael as it's a bit modern for an old dusty like me.

browntrout Wed 22-Jul-09 08:17:33

I like it

mrsradders Wed 22-Jul-09 10:05:56

oohhh i like it i was thinking last night whilst watching that new roimantics thing that rafe was a cool name so rafferty is fab.

I don't think you need to be posh to use certain names, we aren't posh but it is a joke with friends that i like pretentious names HAHAHA....monty would be my demanding choice if this baby turns out to be a boy rather than a girl!!

Welshcakes77 Sat 03-Aug-13 03:16:38

I love Radferty so much so it's on my top 5 list along with Arlo

Welshcakes77 Sat 03-Aug-13 03:17:02

Sorry *Rafferty

drawohamme Sat 03-Aug-13 04:05:17

invicta Sat 03-Aug-13 04:25:31

I know a Rafferty - good name.

williaminajetfighter Sat 03-Aug-13 05:19:03

I really really like it. Good across all ages. Raff is lovely as a shortened version. It's not crazy posh like Tarquin or Monty, I think it's a bit artsy sounding.

pinkpeoniesplease Sat 03-Aug-13 05:38:57

I LOVE this name but can't get it passed DH. I definitely don't think it's posh?!

You should use it!!

Layl77 Sat 03-Aug-13 05:40:17

I like it

chestnut100 Sat 03-Aug-13 05:41:02

I wanted to use this name. Without exception everyone i told laughed or immediately told me they hated it. So I didn't smile

Onesleeptillwembley Sat 03-Aug-13 07:17:22

No, it seems a bit naff.

Loolah Sat 03-Aug-13 07:46:43

It's ok I have a Rafferty in my family he's 2 and it gets shortened to Raff

littlepeas Sat 03-Aug-13 09:08:51

No. I don't find it posh, at all.

minipie Sat 03-Aug-13 09:43:06

I actually really like it, BUT it's a bit self consciously cool/celebby. and I have a suspicion that it might get a bit, um, downmarket in future.

PipkinsPal Sat 03-Aug-13 09:45:30

Yes - for a dog

ShowOfHands Sat 03-Aug-13 09:46:56

I have already commented on this thread.

Four years ago...

LovelyMarchHare Sat 03-Aug-13 09:49:41

I like it. I know of one and goes by Raffi. Both are quite nice in my opinion. If you like it go for it.

rockybalboa Sat 03-Aug-13 11:34:23

Yes but I just wasn't brave enough to use it! Jude Law has a Rafferty I believe.

MoonHare Sat 03-Aug-13 13:35:58

Who's been resurrecting all these threads today?......

Turniptwirl Sat 03-Aug-13 15:50:48

Actually I do like it

TallulahBetty Sat 03-Aug-13 22:20:26

formicadinosaur Sun 04-Aug-13 00:45:03

Twirlyhot Sun 04-Aug-13 00:53:31

Alisvolatpropiis Sun 04-Aug-13 01:12:24

MissTweed Sun 04-Aug-13 07:51:14

I'm loving the fact that the comments on here from 2009 were mainly negative bit the ones from 3013 are mainly positive!! Strange how 4 years can have such a difference!! I'm trying to think of names that everyone hates now but could be popular in 2017!! smile

Londongirl84 Sun 04-Aug-13 13:45:06

I really like it!

emmelinelucas Sun 04-Aug-13 13:59:53

I like it

TobyLerone Sun 04-Aug-13 14:38:43

Love it. It will be one of DC3's middle names, whether it is a girl or a boy. It has significance in my (Irish) family.

TobyLerone Sun 04-Aug-13 14:39:07

Oh crap. I should have RTFT. Zombie.

bridgetsmum Sun 04-Aug-13 14:45:33

No, it's poncy and pretentious
It's a surname

TobyLerone Sun 04-Aug-13 14:47:49

A lot of people have last names as middle names or even first names.

Arisbottle Sun 04-Aug-13 14:48:50

Lol at it being a posh name , my nephew is called Rafferty.

Slavetothechild Sun 04-Aug-13 15:31:21

Graet name we have one !!! Known as Raff . Odd threads today all my childrens names coming up !!!

aquashiv Sun 04-Aug-13 20:37:30
