Tip of the day

Never ask a child IF they need the loo... moodlum

Quote of the week

CaptainNancy's (admirably succinct) family rules: "Don't be a dingbat/duffer. Keep calm and carry on. Dream big. Shut up and get on with it."

Recipe of the week

Carmenere's cinder toffee: sweet, sticky, made-in-five-minutes toffee squares that'll spark off a few 'yums' among the 'oohs' and 'aahs' of your little fireworks-watchers.

Honest opinions please

Ava is lovely. Was our second-choice name for our DD smile

I do like Coco too, but can't stand Jo Whiley so the fact that her daughter is called Coco would be enough to put me off using it ...!
Cordelia - Coco

I really like Coco

Also like Ava but honestly I hear it EVERYWHERE (same as Eva, Evie, Eve)

Just trying to think what else could be shortened into Coco, if you prefer to do it that way..

Corinne
Coral (is that a name?!)
Connie (although I'm sure that is short for something in itself)
Colette
My dd knows a Chloe who gets called Coco.

Coco- hmm. Not a great baby name, fab stripper name though. I knew a grown-up who renamed herself Coco by deed poll. She had a chanel obsession. Came across as somewhat tacky and 'try-hard'

Ava- (you said 'honest' sorry!!) is too Myleene Klass.
The correct pronunciation of Eva in most of the world is Ava, and I like it better this way, in fact I love it pronounced Ava and spelt Eva. Reason mainly that Ava is too Avian flu and celebbed out.

Im not horrified by your names though they are nice grin

Coco immediately makes me think of the clown. It would also make a good name for a monkey.

Ava is lovely even though it is fairly popular. I don't think it's in the top ten though.
ava is nice

Coco is a bit too "celeb baby name"

Ava -I like it, I don't know very many but I can imagine it becoming popular
Coco - not good. Clown comes to mind. Or "a mug of hot cocoa".

Ava, I'm surprised it's common, its not common round here, I don't know ANY kids called Ava!

Coco makes me think of Coco Hernandez in Fame. Not sure whether that's a good or a bad thing...

Ava isnt that common, not as popular as the top ten, just cropping up a bit more often. I dont know any.

Coco is a definate NO.

Ava is lovely but common - Mylene chose it so it's probably going to become even more popular.

Personally, think Coco is a bit shi shi (sp?); Monica from Friends actress chose it, but then again, so did Jo Wylie, so perhaps it has some credibility.

How about Beatrice and Martha - my two favourite girls' names??
Coco - silly name, but usually receives (bizarrely) some good comments on here.
Ava, nice but very "now", Ada(h) is a little old lady chic, but quite nice similar alternative
I agree that Coco will be hard to carry off.

Ava is lovely but very popular. It is the name of Mylene Klass' daughter.
Coco - Dreadful
Ava - not my taste but Ok.

Coco is awful. And there will be a lot more around given the Coco Chanel film that's out at the moment.

Ava is fine.
I really like Coco. Courtney Cox and Jo Whiley both named their babies this and I know 3 where I live. I also know two Avas.

Coco is awful (sorry)
Ava I just find a bit meh- I don't like Eva much either, but I love Eve. hmm
We thought about Coco for a girl. It is very pretty but it's hard to pull off.

Hazel is another more normal nutty namesmile

If you want your link to display text other than the web address itself, leave a space after the address then add the text before the ]]. So "Look at [[www.mumsnet.com this page]]", would display "Look at this page".
