Operation Middle Name

Bathsheba · 16/06/2009 12:54

Right, we thought we had the middle name sorted for our girl's choice, but no...DH has decided against it..

First name is Tess

Surname is similar to Matthews

We have 2 older DDs, with middle names of Charlotte and Louise - so fairly classical with not so classical first names.

I'm thinking along the lines of "something longish ending in a vowel sound" as Tess is so short.

I love Tess Jemima but DH says No to Jemima. Our initial pick was Phoebe but DH has now decided against Phoebe.

Ooh Tess is a lovely name but hard to put a middle name with. I see your problem. Will have a go though.

Tess Susannah?

Gabriella

do you have any good family names you could use?

Bathsheba · 16/06/2009 13:44

Thanks for the suggestions girls - keep 'em coming...

No family names really to pick from - and our other DD's don't have family middle names (they aren't called after anyone).

I do like Susannah, but thats an awful lot of SSSSSSSS

Thanks so much girls - I've passed them all to DH to see what he says...

Its all a bit "advanced planning" as I'm 9 weeks today but I do like to have these things settled early...

Then he should spend the time you are trynig to find the right name....lol!

He is very picky!

Do you like any of the names? Surely there is a comprimise. Who picked the first name? MAybe whoever picked the first the other should pick the second.

It's difficult to stick a middlename onto the end of Tess because it is very short. If OH is really picky I would suggest sticking grandparents names as middlenames even if they don't sounf wonderful. Lots of people have the weirdest of middlenames because its a family members.

What would the grandmum's/aunty names be or a female version of the grandfathers?

Have you noticed that OH only every criticise our suggestions but never come up with any?!

Thanks loads girls - I'll pass them all onto him...!!

He hasn't actually come up with anything (he has Aspergers and panics when in a position to do anything serious and so tries to joke his way out of it completely inappropriately with footballers names, and inane words like Banana)...

We kind of both came up with Tess, I was running suggestions by him and it was the only one he liked, and now we have both fallen in love with it - I thought we were fairly settled on Tess Phoebe until he told me that he didn't like it.

It would seem weird giving (potential) DD3 a family name when we have been very strict on not using family names for the others so not to cause offense to one side of the family or to other people who weren;t picked to be called after....in my family we have a Jean, a Catherine, and Ann, a Carolyn...DH's family has an Audrey, a Mary, a Jessie and no-one knows what his Grannie's name is other than Grannie...

Tess Eliza

It's quite a hard one! Tess Eloise
Tess Estella

My x has Aspergers too, and he could only think of 3 names Elizabeth, Catherine, Margeret and no matter how much I prompted him that was it. She has a lovely name which is a short form of one of those names which seemed a little crusty to me at first. But I am happy it's a good choice in the long run.

Tess Imogen. Well done gold star to the poster who suggested that, just read it and it sounds really right. I like the name Imogen don't love it, but the combo if you like them both is excellent.

Bathsheba, I am now worried OH has Aspergers!

He comes up with nothing apart from stupid chavvy names or ridiculous names like Bernard and then chortles for hours! Is happy to criticise my choices though!

missmem · 19/06/2009 11:01

Have you considered not having a middle name?

Report

Must say that Tess Banana has a lovely ring to it. Just the right stresses to work well.
