This seems to be the only boy's name that dp and I can both go 'well, it's nice enough' to at the moment.
Like but don't love it - what do others think?

I love it.

I would have called my ds this except we have a surname which doesn't go with B-anything

pointydog · 17/05/2009 22:36

yeah, it's ok. Ben is simple, good sound.

Every single Ben(jamin) I have ever known has been absolutely lovely - and I have taught in 7 different schools, so rare to find a name without a negative connotation somewhere!

I like it. Was on my shortlist for DS

Really like Benjamin (and Benedict!), but find the nickname 'Ben' (which he will inevitably be called) a little boring....

Like the name but it's very popular. There were five of them at nursery with DS1!!

We are probably calling our baby Benjamin. (Due in Sept) DH loves it, I think it's ok, goes with the other kids name etc....Still waiting for something to go wow though!!

Agree that 'Ben' is ok, but a little dull/boring....

There are SO many lovely 1 or 2 syllable names around that won't inevitably be shortened. How about

Oscar
Arthur
Quentin
Thomas

Ben's ok, nothing wrong with it, but agree that its a little dull.

Ben is OK, bit common, but don't like Benjamin, not sure why though! I like short names for boys.

I love it

LOVE it ...

I like it but that is because it is DH's name! He is not common, honest

If you don't like Ben as a shortening, what about Benjie, which is lovely for a little boy IMO (although bound to become Ben as he gets bigger).

It is a lovely name. It is also very very common (as in lots of them). Most of our friends have boys called Ben.If this bothers you dont use it.

jellybeans · 18/05/2009 18:22

I meant common as in popular too

Lovely. I also like Ben. I never know what is wrong with boring-I love the so called 'boring' names.

Report
ramonaquimby · 18/05/2009 19:22

think very wet wimpy name
like Ben as shortened form, but v v overdone

Report

I like Benjamin but hate Ben - not because it's a bad name, but because every boy I knew at school seemed to be called Ben and I find it unutterably tedious.

i have never loved it

HOWEVER i think it means ' beloved youngest son' and since discovering this i fail to see how anyone could not love it

we call ds5 'Netanyahu' which inevitable ends up as 'Binjamin' (Bin ya min)

lovely

ben5 · 18/05/2009 19:32

benjamin is lovely!! there are lots around

Report
Rosebud05 · 18/05/2009 19:57

Thanks, ladies. I'm not really bothered about it being a popular name tbh, as our surname is pretty far out and I'd prefer a "well-known, no queries about spelling" sort of first name for his sake.
