and a woman I'v eknown for a few years tells me she's just about to become a step-g.........(randparent - she thinks she's too young LOL). Her children have all got rather "eccentric" type English names (of which she's very proud and admits freely they're rather eccentric )

Anyhow, she said to me

"omg you won't believe what my DSD is going to call him"

I stood there thinking of MN.........

"Floyd" she says - "after Pink Floyd"

ok I thought - not great, but could be worse.........

oh but she hadn't finished..........

his middle name

Jethro

Floyd Jethro........

I had to agree with her either name on their own wasn't great - but together...........

My dh's cousin has named his son Floyd - we thought it was rather cool, but then we are Pink Floyd fans. I like the name Jethro (not keen on Jethro Tull though) - wouldn't personally pair it with Floyd, but I do think it's a valid reason for choosing a name for a child - no worse than picking a random name you think sounds nice, but has nothing to do with your heritage or family tradition.

Both our children's names were chosen with a musical theme in mind (along with other criteria). Their first and middle names are named after songs or singers. You wouldn't be aware my dd was "musically themed" unless I told you, however, my son's names might be obvious to a fan, but nowhere near as blatant as Floyd Jethro. When I told a colleague how we named our children, he laughed and said "Wow, you really thought hard about it, didn't you?" He hadn't noticed any connections himself.
