Baby names

Is it ok to name a baby the same name as one of your best mates?

Or will she think I'm stalking her? It's a fairly common name and I'd shorten it to something that she doesn't get called.

We're likely to be friends for years to come and I'm just wondering if it's a bit of a silly thing to do.

Might be a bit hard to explain - unless you are actually naming the baby after her...."Oh how lovely of you to name the baby after me - I'm really touched!" "Er...she's not named after you, I just liked the name......"

have a good friend with same name as my DD - it's fine.

if you don't want her to think you're a stalker, send email before baby born saying "we really like the name xxxx and wanted to use it for our DD - thought would ask you if you mind as it's already your name!"

would think most people would think it fine

Cool. We've got a while before baby is due so I might run the idea past her. I think she'd be chuffed.
