Does calling my DD2 Jessie make her sound like a pet?

What do you reckon? We call her it all the time (short for Jessica)but then two people have pointed out it makes her sound like a dog.Are they being rude or doing me a favour??!!

Rude! In our village we have an Alfie, Ruby, Charlie and Chloe,(and many more)- they are all dogs that have been given 'human' names not the otherway round.

My dd is called Bo - just like President Obama's dog!!! I couldn't believe it when I read it - still at least she's not newborn, she's almost 3. At least people can't say we named her after the White House dog!

i do know dog called Jessie. The 'ie' sounds do tend to be for pets, my cat is Rosie! :-)

I call dd 'monkey' all the time, and ds 'boom'. When walking through a park one day a couple looked at eachother horrified when they heard me call dd by her nickname, the woman then asked her dp "why would someone cal a child that?". I had to laugh.

Jessie is a perfectly decent human name. When was it exactly that dogs took control of all our names?

Yeah it is not like dogs sit for hours pouring over '1000 dog names' and choose one for their new puppy. There should be some law passed whereby only animals can have names from a list of 100 names only, all of them being like Lucky, Pongo and Rover. It's time we took a stand and claimed back human names!!!

My parents had dogs called Rosie and Ruby - actually nice girls names stolen by hounds!!

Must admit I have found myself patting my leg above my knee when I call her in the park, but have managed to stop myself saying 'come by Jessie'!!!

I'm Jessie and when I was a kid I also had a dog called jess - we got her as an adult and I was never confused about whome people were speaking to. Go for it I love being jessie

I had a phase when I was about 8, wanting to change my name to Jessie. I later had a really good friend Jessie, it's a nice name, ignore the rude people!

I know 2 Jessies (not Jessica) - it's a lovely name. I wouldn't think about it as a pet's name.

My sisters dog is called Jess . I have a cousin Jess and another cousin Jessie....
The cousins were born before the dog . The dog was given that name as at the time the childrens favouirite program was postman pat !
People are being rude !!! I manage to tell the difference between the cousins and the dog so should they !!!!!

but what's wrong with a dog name? My IL's dog is called Jessie and is lovely. Our DS is called Milo and there are far more dogs than humans with that name - so what? It is lovely - and so is Jessie

My mum was christened Jessie (not Jessica) but she didn't like it herself, preferred to be called Jess.

If I have a girl she will be called Jessica, shortened to Jess more likely.

To answer OP - I don't think it matters at all. Nearly every cat I've met is called Lucy (my dd's name!) ...my dd thinks it's great

One of my dogs is also Jessie and my other one is Sam - but it doesn't mean people can't use them for the kids too! My good friend's little boy is called Sam too and it didn't bother her, she still called him that(the dog is quite a bit older than the child).
