Baby names

Am I wrong to use this name or just being silly ...

My DH and my FIL are French.

My FIL is called Michel and we would both love to use his name as a middle name for a boy but I'm worried because it's pronounced Michelle.

am I cruel to give a french name sounding like a girls name to a boy ?

Will people think it is Mitchel or Michael ?

Am I going to regret using it ?

My DS1 is Dylan Arthur and the whole family love this name.
(Arthur was my grandad as it is quite traditional to have a middle name from a beloved member of the family)

Use it definitely!
Its perfect if you jave the French heritage.
When your Ds2 is going through the embarassed boy stage at school he can just tell his friends that his middle name is Michael if he has to mention it! When he is older I'm sure he'll be very proud of it.

My dh worked with a Michel and it was ages before I twigged that he was a man. I knew he was French too, I just never gave much thought to it.

There is a possibility though that this generation won't know and Michelles as it is not a popular name at the moment.

Whoops, missed that it was for a middle name somehow! Yes, you should have it for a middle name, definitely.

It would only be whilst he was a young child that it would cause problems with teasing and children are very rarely even aware of middle names.

use it

Thanks for the support - feel much better about it now. DH will be really pleased at my change of heart - originally I had said No way !!

I also love my DH's middle name which is Gilbert ... pronounced .. Jil-bear

but DH hates it and won't let me use it. lol

I'd use it.Your dh is French and Michel Roux Jr is a reasonably familiar face on tv anyway, certainly if one watches Masterchef, so it shouldn't seem terribly strange to others.

Middle names are rarely used, i dont aee a problem, most people would know how to pronounce it.
