Josephine.

She hates it so much she prefers to tell people her middle name is Jane, or pretend she doesn't have one at all.

Luckily she loves her first name.

I think a lot of people hate their middle names but you don't have to use them much do you? Josephine is better than Jane!

Well, I like it but I would have hated it at 13. Then, I would have thought it sounded old-ladyish. I think it's compulsory to hate your name(s) when you're 13 though.

It's a great name - she'll love it in 10 years time.

I hated mine when a child, was very embarrassed by it, but love it now.

Josephine is much better than Jane. Give it time ...

Is it you who has several children with really lovely first names?

She could always tell people it's Jo. It doesn't really matter though does it and if she continues to hate it, it's easy enough to pretend she hasn't got one. I have always hated my middle name (Wendy) but it really doesn't bother me enough to do anything about it.

I have always hated mine, but it's not really a problem - who uses their middle name?

Report
duchesse · 07/01/2009 19:32

I have three children and I like their first names, janeite!

I hate my middle name - but since you dont have to use it unless you're filling in official forms its not a problem, I doubt any of my friends know what it is (as I know hardly any of my friends' middle names)

I rarely think about it, wouldnt bother changing it

Did you mention them on a thread a couple of days ago, to much general coo-ing and approval?!!!

Report
Podrick · 07/01/2009 19:33

I absolutely love it but I have close relatives who have it as a first and also as a middle name and they don't like it

Report
differentID · 07/01/2009 19:33

Tell her you'll change it- to Marguerite or Agnes, no other options.
My sister used to say her middle name was Anne. (she of the A name above)

13 year old girls are always obssessed about their middle names aren't they, signing their names as X Y Z instead of just X Z like the rest of us. She will grow out of that phase.

I think Josephine is cool. I was always very jealous of my middle-name hating friends for at lrast having a middle name. I'm so boring that i've just got a 1st name.

I know a Josephine (aged 11) that has decided she is a JoJo - she might like that better although for a middle name it doesn't really matter anyway!

Well, I'm biased because DD is Josie! But I agree with HeadFairy, at that age it seems important (I was really jealous of my best friend who had two middle names) but once you're older it really doesn't matter.

she will like it one day. No point changing it. tell her to keep quiet about it if she doesn;t want people to know it.

Remind her she wanted to be called crystal when she was 5.

my dd also has middle name Josephine. Also her bestfriend is called Josie. I named dd after my grandmother who died when i was expecting dd. I think it is old fashioned, but romantic and beautiful
