How do you say Clementine?

Help!

Work colleague has just emailed to say she has had a baby girl, named Clementine.

I have to ring her tomorrow. She is the sort to be offended if I get it wrong.

Is it Clemen TEEN or Clemen TYNE?

gah!

WalkinginWaynettaWonderland · 08/12/2008 21:41

tyne - as in "oh my darling,oh my darling,oh my darling - Clemtentine"

BoccaDellaNativita · 08/12/2008 21:42

I too think Clemen-tyne for the girl and Clemen-teen for the fruit.

annasmami · 08/12/2008 22:14

Being French/Latin origin, it should be Clementeen imo.

ilovemydog · 08/12/2008 22:16

Tyne.

RachieB · 08/12/2008 22:17

I say Tyne for both!

changer22 · 08/12/2008 22:19

I say Tyne for both too.

dizzyjingles · 08/12/2008 22:20

CoteDAzur · 08/12/2008 22:21

In France, it's ClemenTEEN.

ABudafulSightWereHappyTonight · 08/12/2008 22:21

I know one and she is Clemen TYNE.

llareggub · 08/12/2008 22:23

I'll let you know how she pronounces it tomorrow.

The same as tangerine. Easy peasy!

Cies · 08/12/2008 22:27

I knew one at school - she was Clemen TEEN, or Clemmie.

MrsSeanBean · 08/12/2008 22:33

I would say Clemen-TEEN. Beautiful name. Have it lined up for possible future dd

NowICanSpellGeansaiNollaig · 09/12/2008 09:19

Definitely to rhyme with WINE. If it rhymes with Bean, then you are talking about one of those little satsuma type things.

MrsSeanBean · 09/12/2008 09:24

Hmmm. Puzzling.
Wasn't Winston Churchill's wife called Clementine? Sure I've heard her called Clemen-teen on the telly. (Not that that's any guarantee it's correct of course... )

chocolatedot · 09/12/2008 09:28

I know 3 Clementine's - all pronoounced teen
