I wasn't clever enough to hide my horror. "This is Churton." I think I went a bit pale as I repeated "Churton??" in a YouCannotBeSerious tone of voice.

Turns out it is an old family name, but to me it sounds like a cheese.

Oi! My grandad was a Hubert WINK

(Everyone hated it so he was universally known as Jack)

Oh god, the first time I took dd to nursery I was introduced to a few of the other babies, and I had the most difficult time keeping a straight face.

And anytime I'm introduced to a Freya (which seems to be every second girl baby these days) I have to seriously bite my lip.

Why does Freya make you giggle, Esme? To tell the truth, I think it's pretty trite, but it's not exactly funny. Not like Churton. You might as well call your son Lymeswold.

freya isn't a daft name to me, but, having 6huge6 norks, it reminds me of the underwear range in debenhams!

Roger and Barbara

Couldn't they used them as middle names?

My mum's name's Barbara! Although she is in her late 50's, not 5 weeks
I met a baby the other day called Marshall. It's not strange I just wonder what part of someone thinks oh doesn't he look like a Marshall

This morning a yummy mummy with a very loud voice shouted right next to my ear "Anya, not too far darling"

I really wanted to say, "Anya? Isn't that a potato?"

For me, it's not the names themselves, it's when the proud parents announce the name, thinking they've been totally original, and then glare at you when you say 'oh yes we know a very cute Hubert'. I stumbled into that one recently.

A (really lovely) lady who lives in the street behind us has a daughter called Missy which I had to repeat several times to make sure I'd got it right.

Mums name is Barbara it's an ok name but just not very baby like.

But then Tilly/Milly/Molly etc etc are all cute but not v adult like I suppose but that's a whole other thread....
