I saw this name on another thread a few days ago and it has been on my mind ever since.

What do people think of both Camille and Milly?

v.nice

Romy7 · 20/11/2008 14:08

i love it. wanted it for both dds, but we have a surname that sounds really silly with milly, so dh won.

shootfromthehip · 20/11/2008 14:09

Yeah- Camille is one of my fav names too. The nick name business does my head in- why choose a lovely name and turn it in to something else? You're hyjacking 2 names!!!

Stick with Camille- it's beautiful.

PixieMoon · 20/11/2008 14:09

Very nice, I prefer Camilla which I think is a very pretty name, the French-ness of Camille is a bit austere for me (is it also a boy's name in French?)

It is nice and versatile though, I know a tomboy Camilla who shortens it to Cam as well.

Hulababy · 20/11/2008 14:11

A friend of mine is called Camille and hers is shortened to Cam at times.

I do think Milly works as a nn though.

MrsMattie · 20/11/2008 14:12

Camille is beautiful. I wouldn't even shorten it to Milly. I think Camille is so pretty on it's own.

ilovemydog · 20/11/2008 14:18

nice

artichokes · 20/11/2008 16:40

All positives so far .
I much prefer Camille to Camilla - it seems less "posh" and does not have the Parker-Bowles assocations.
Is Milly sweet or twee?

I love Camille and also Camellia after the shrub

like Milly but there do seem to be a lot of them around

SJLTM · 20/11/2008 17:57

I have a Millie in reception year, only one other, hope that helps.

jeanjeannie · 20/11/2008 18:49

Camille is gorgeous. Think I'd have been sorely tempted for my DDs had I even come across it!

Wouldn't shorten it either - fab name as it is.
Loads and loads of Millys where I am.

loler · 20/11/2008 19:06

I know one who shortens to Cally

sadbarratthomeowner · 20/11/2008 19:10

I like Camille, very unusual. It is also a French boy's name.

kitsmummy · 20/11/2008 19:23

I'm v jealous, I wanted Camille for my daughter, born 9 weeks ago, but DH was having none of it

pgwithnumber3 · 20/11/2008 20:49

artichokes, I think it was my thread you saw it in!

I still love it and it is no 1 on our list atm but whenever I mention it to anyone in real life they don't sound too impressed!

I like Mimi as a shortening of it as well.

thirtysomething · 20/11/2008 20:55

I wanted camille too but DH refused - said it was too girly. I think it's just gorgeous!

artichokes · 20/11/2008 21:57

Oh no . Just discovered its the name of the Bond Girl in the Quantum of Solace. Noooooo. Will that make it all trendy and "off the moment"?

OP posts:
pgwithnumber3 · 20/11/2008 22:31

I doubt it artichokes, nobody really remembers the names of the newer Bond girls anyway!

dinkymum · 20/11/2008 22:32

I have a Millie, shes just Millie though.
I think theres a lot of nn that would work lovely for Camille!

smartiejake · 20/11/2008 22:33

I love the name. One of my favourite pupils of all time was named Camille.

Plonker · 20/11/2008 23:13

Beautiful! Milly is gorgeous too

RunningGirl · 22/11/2008 12:37

Camille and Milly are both lovely names. The only thing though (and this may not bother you) is that Milly is very popular as it's used as a nn for lots of names - I know more Milly's than any other girls name as I know a Melissa, an Emily, 2 Amelie's and 2 Amelia's who are all called Milly.

castille · 22/11/2008 12:45

Camille can be a boy's name in France, but it's extremely rare for a boy now. There are quite a lot of little French girl Camilles.

How would you pronounce it - Ca-mee or Ca-meel?

festivedollyx · 13/12/2008 23:33

i have a friend camille and have always loved it.
