Please help. I like the sound but I think it is quite unusual, so want to know what others think.
Is this a good name for a girl?

Are your children’s vaccines up to date?
WowOoo · 07/11/2008 16:42

Think it's lovely and reminds me of a great Pogues song too.

snowleopard · 07/11/2008 16:43

It's fantastic. Lorrie/Laurie for short is a sweet name too.

Twims · 07/11/2008 16:44

From Gilmore Girls

belgo · 07/11/2008 16:44

Who are the Gilmore Girls? Should I be worried?

Gilmore Girls was a fabulous US tv show about a young single mum and her teenage daughter - both called Lorelei (though the daughter was nicknamed Rory). I love the name!

PrimulaVeris · 07/11/2008 16:55

Er ... do you know the origin of the name though?

German legend. Girl changed into a mermaid/siren after betrayal by faithless lover and lured sailors to their death. Or summat like that. There's the Lorelei Rock in the Rhine valley.

snowleopard · 07/11/2008 17:05

There is also the Loreley spelling - there's an asteroid called 165 Loreley and I think this spelling is possibly even nicer.

shitehawk · 07/11/2008 17:09

I wouldn't use it myself because of the siren connection - luring sailors to their deaths and all that.

But if you like it then use it. You don't need anyone to validate your choice.

MissyK · 07/11/2008 18:32

Gilmore Girls. I am playing catch up & have watched a few episodes today. I LOVE the name but DH has said no

MissKubelik - GG is still on, Rory is now 21 & in college I think there's still another season and a half left. (unsure how far you saw)

Sorry for the hi-jack.

Gorgeous name though!! x

chocolateteapot · 07/11/2008 18:35

Wouldn't use it myself but have been past the Lorelei many times on the Rhein and just can't see it as a name, to me it is a rock.

TheFallenMadonna · 07/11/2008 18:39

I was about it when I first saw the thread. Bit now I've rolled it around a few times, and it's growing on me. Nice.

lljkk · 07/11/2008 18:41

I have a relative called Lorelei, it's pretty, but she has had to spell it her entire life for people (as would you).

snowleopard · 07/11/2008 18:42

But, people called Catherine and Jonathan and Rachel have to spend their lives spelling out their name too - it's not unusual. I wouldn't let that put me off an interesting name.

scampadoodle · 07/11/2008 18:49

I love it. It's a beautiful Cocteau Twins-y sort of name & was on my list when I was expecting DS2. Obviously, I never got to use it!

DorrisMcWhirter · 07/11/2008 18:50

Gorgeous and unusual without being 'odd'.

lizziemun · 07/11/2008 19:12

I love but dh wont let me use it.

southeastastra · 07/11/2008 19:15

reminds me of marilyn too!

annasmami · 07/11/2008 21:55

I have been past the Lorelei on the Rhein River several times and thats what I associate with the name.

It would be a very odd name choice from a German's point of view (as nice at it sounds per se ).

Elk · 07/11/2008 22:08

I love it, I wanted it for one of my dd's but it really doesn't go with my surname. I also love the Gilmore Girls - excellent program (even dh sniggers when its on whilst trying to pretend not to watch it).

crankytwanky · 07/11/2008 22:41

Really like it! Beautiful.
Reminds me of a Gomez track.
Is Leila overused, Frosty? Growing up I met maybe two. Maybe it's more common nowadays. No-one could spell it either.

RachieB · 08/11/2008 15:06

i like it
