Can you help? Baby is due on 17th December and my married surname is Mohamed so we need something that goes with that but we're struggling! I don't think traditional British names go with Mohamed so was thinking Ruby (too common!) or Isabella (just taken by my brother's baby!) for girls - so now don't have any. We only have one boys name so far... Zachary. As you can see, we need help! Thanks in advance.

are you looking for an islamic sounding name, or a culture-bridging sort of name?

FimboGotAxed · 14/10/2008 16:03

Boy - George

Girl-Jasmine

Nighbynight · 14/10/2008 16:05

actually, I think mohamed goes well with most english names. Not Alison, perhaps.

Josie77 · 14/10/2008 16:06

Not an islamic sounding name...

Maya for a girl? Again not sure whether you want an English names that just sort of goes with Mohamed, or a name that crosses both cultures... I teach in a largely Muslim college so could give you literally hundreds of suggestions!

Josie77 · 14/10/2008 16:08

... but not too british either! I just don't think Thomas Mohamed etc works.

x-post - ok:

Elizabeth, Lucy, Caitlin, Chloe, Lucia

I think names with at least two syllables sound a bit better than single syllable names with your surname, but that is just my opinion!

Josie77 · 14/10/2008 16:10

Really like Maya but taken by a friend already... ahhh! Don't really know what kind of name we want... we're not a muslim couple so that's why maybe I'm steering away from Islamic name ... but that said, we just want a lovely name!

x-post again:

Kirran/Kieron, Alicia, I'll get thinking!

Nighbynight · 14/10/2008 16:12

I tend to agree about the 2 syllables. Its the M in Thomas that doesnt go, I think.

Emma wouldnt go for the same reason
