One of the names on our list. I really love it but I don't really like Becky If we were to use Rebecca (I don't even know if I'm having a boy or a girl yet) is Becky inevitable?

I feel the same as you. Rebecca is a lovely, classic name, but Becky/Bex/Beck - hate them. Wouldn't use it for this reason, as I think it's one of those names that will inevitably be shortened.

I would say she is very likely to get Becky or Bex.

or The Becster
or Beccadoodle

(or maybe that's just us )

It is not inevitable

Thought as much and for that reason and that reason alone I think it will fall off our list

I'm Rebecca and I've never been a Becky - I think you either are or you aren't. My parents were successful in never calling me anything but Rebecca throughout school, at university I became Bec/Bex but now I get a mix of all three.

I have to say that I really like my name, I think that it's one of those 'take you anywhere' names, quite classless (I mean that in a good way) and despite the fact it was in the top ten for years, I've only ever known a couple of other Rebeccas.

I know a Rebecca who gets called Reb by one group of friends and Becca by another. She always always calls herself Rebecca, and doesn't answer to Becky, ever.

Her parents call her Rebecks.

I love this name. You can't really control what her friends call her and in a way, it's nice for friends to have pet names for each other. YOU can call her Rebecca all her life!

Adding to that, at some point every name will be shortened or lengthened by someone - My friend's DD is Ava and she was horrified when someone at her school called her Aves!!

Btw, Iv NEVER been called becky, ever. Not more than once. Its not inevitable.
In fact, I went to primary, and high school with another Rebecca. We are still friends now.
Shes Rebecca, not becky.

Thanks for your messages maybe we'll keep it for a bit longer. I really like it. What did you/do you do if people call Rebecca Becky - correct them? Ignore them?

People dont now tbh.
If anyone said it when I was little, my mum would say, "Its Rebecca."
simple.
People arnt offended. Its not rude.
If they said it now, (Im 22) Id just ignore it. It would be someone who'd never met me before, and didnt know me, and probably wouldnt see me again.

Oh, when I said "they wouldnt see me again." I didnt mean because they'd called me Becky

if soemone else calls your child becky and the child is young then you say nicely " its rebecca actually"

if child is older and doesnt mind being called becky you leave it

if child is older and DOES mind it you train her to say politely " i prefer to be called rebecca"

you need to accept that once she is at school she will use whatever name/nickname she likes

BTW lovely name

Thanks!

Heres a question, Iv always wondered, when you hear the name Rebecca, what kind of name do you think it is?
Is it an old, conservative name like Victoria?

Its just that as its my name, I dont see it for what other people do. Does that make sense?
