One of the mums at school saying she is considering this for her newborn.

Can you imagine getting it to do kitchen chores? (in Yorks accent) "Fetch t'tray, Trey."

Any other children amusingly named after kitchen or dining accessories?

There was a Tre I think on that really funny soap " sunset beach".Always reminded me of ash tray, it was an american thing!
Loved that soap, although don't think it was meant to be funny!!

I think there might have been a Tre in Sex and the City, maybe?

SniffyHock Mon 02-Jun-08 09:27:30

There was a Trey in Sex and the City. He was Charlotte's husband - Not a good association!

Trey means the third. A lot of american families call their third born if its a boy Trey. So it says in my baby name book.

Sounds like short for Tracey to me... As in "pass us a fag, will you Tra?"

savoycabbage Mon 02-Jun-08 16:54:51

Tre DeChannel from sunset beach. His mother faked a pregnancy with a cushion and kept it from her husband, an international jewel thief. In the meantime her mother was pregnant with the baby of the daughters husband. They called him Cole the Third after his father and Grandfather but he was always called Tre - the third.

What a programme!

Only Tre(y) I have heard of was the person from a previous Apprentice. Can't say I like the name personally though.

bluefox Mon 02-Jun-08 18:26:23

The weathergirl on our local tv is called Trai (pronounced Tray) Anfield.

<<swoons>> at Sunset Beach

The only Tre I have ever met is also one of the naughtiest children I have ever met. There may be no connection whatsoever of course but I don't like the name at all!

Love the name Trey, my 3rd born son is called Trey, as in him being named after a kitchen object, i dont actually think people are that silly to do that let alone even associate it with that as given a little research Trey is an actual name, not everyones cup of tea and not popular in the uk but it is a name i guess you could associate it with the following names - Cole, Ty, River, Brooke etc.

eachtigertires Thu 21-Feb-13 14:45:23

Trey, Ryan's brother in The O.C. I like it!

CheeseStrawWars Thu 21-Feb-13 14:49:44

Trey Parker is one of the creators of South Park.

I love the name Trey as someone very close to me has it as a shortened version of their name.

As marynatalie said no one has ever associated his name with a kitchen object people aren't that silly or rude.

Gwennan Thu 21-Feb-13 15:49:35

Is Cheryl Cole going out with a Tre?

Jules722 Thu 21-Feb-13 18:49:11

I went to school with a boy called "Trey". His given name was, for example, Henry Vincent Miller III and they called him "Trey" as a nickname because he was the third in his family with that name and it kept him from being confused. I liked it! I didn't think of "tray" at all when I heard it and don't recall any bad references (though I'm sure he has a different opinion!)

Like Enid, I remember Tre from Boyz n the Hood! Brilliant film for those who haven't seen it. His Dad was called Furious. Played by Lawrence Fishbourne.
Always wandered why a Mother would use Furious as a name...
