Yes.
Wouldn't choose it for a first name myself, but it is a nice one though.

Yep, DD wanted to call DS James until she was browsing through the Arogs catalogue and came across Thomas the Tank Engine .

It's a lovely name and reminds me of so many lovely people.

Yes, DS2 was almost James but dp said he'd probably call him Jimmy, which i hate.
He's now Jake and I love his name. He does too.

Quite like Thomas-the-Tank-Engine, too . No, James is a fab name - do you like Jim?

Yes - this was on my list of names for a ds. It's a family name as it was important for me to honour my child with one of my GP;s names. Turned out to be a shortened version of my Nan's name which is her second middle name!

It was my first choice for a boy (since little always was going to call a boy James) but sadly dh aboslutely hated - said he would call him Jim or Jimbo so we have a Jack and Max instead.

James is a nice name, but depends what you want really. It can be shortened to Jamie which can be chavvy, but can also be quite public school if just left as james.

scottishmummy · 03/05/2008 00:14

in scotland jamie is not chavvy tis nice colloquialism

Report
dinny · 03/05/2008 00:15

it's ok

Jamie isn't really a shortening of James though, is it. I like James but not Jamie/Jim/Jimmy.

Report
scottishmummy · 03/05/2008 00:20

of course jamie is derivative of james in literature and verbaqlly

James is nice but do beware.

DS1 said to me t'other day "yes, James said..." and I had to say well which one - there are 3 in his class.
The other DCs have one in their class too.

But apart from that - many don't have a problem with popularity (I just think it's confusing) it's a fine name - everyone can spell it, say it, no need to shorten it, good for baby boy or prime minister or pop star.

DP's name is James as is his father and 2 previous grandfathers but I broke the chain and gave my DS it as a middle name! Just to be awkward LOL
