I am trying somewhat unsuccessfully to find an unusual short name for a boy or girl and don't know where to start...

can I also suggest the credits of programmes you watch - my dh used to laugh at me as I was annoyed if he turned tv over before the credits were done lol

www.behindthename.com is great - and the meaning and history of the names seems more reliable than on some other sites

This is a mad names website - by a supposed 'nameologist'. This page gives grades in terms of how successful a person will be in various apects of life with their name!

namestructures.com/fname_report_cards.php

You can pay $9 dollars on the Name Tuning section and put whole names in, and it will give indepth info on the impact of a name on a person's life. It upset me actually, as when I put my daughter's name in, it more or less said she's end up as a 'substance abuser'. DH had to tell me to get a grip when I suggested we should change her name. I'm pleased to say I am over it now.

I see my link didn't work -

here's a new link to the home page,
www.namepower101.com/
then go to the 'First Name Report Cards' section.

Can't believe no-one's mentioned this one:

www.babynamewizard.com/namevoyager/lnv0105.html

Although it is US-based. But very shiny. :D

I seem to remember reading the Not Without My Handbag name diss ages ago (before it had its own message board!) and really enjoying it until I got to a section cussing traditional Welsh names as made-up nonsense -the author proclaimed that no Welsh people ever named their kids things like Dilys, Arwen, Angharad, Eluned etc. citing the fact that they had met a few English people who claimed never to have known anyone with those names as evidence. It really ruined a good bitchfest for me - if you're going to act superior, at least get your facts straight before you start.

Umm, sorry, rant over
