Hi,

I am due with a baby girl soon and husband and I are between 3 names: Vivian/Vivienne, Sylvie, or Juliet. We want something classic and not too common. Please let me know your thoughts on these names and which you like most! Thanks!

I love Juliet and Sylvie and think they would would sound good as a pair either way round :)

Juliet is one of my favourite names, however, Vivienne and Sylvie are on my 'what were they thinking?! ' list.

Juliet is beautiful, Sylvie not so.

Vivienne is the female version-I like the full version but hate Viv, which is what everyone will call her.

Juliet is lovely.
Vivienne is ok. (Vivian is a male name!)

Sylvie is awful. It's a French name, hugely popular in France among women in their 50s! I wouldn't go for a foreign name without checking its social connotations in the country concerned.

Sylvia might be a better choice. It's been out of fashion for long enough in the UK now that it's probably due for a comeback. Smile

  1. Sylvia
  2. Vivienne, Vivian is a boy's name.
  3. Juliet
  4. Sylvie (I really don't like it with the ie ending)

Sylvia is imo gorgeous. Vivienne is really pretty as well.

Juliet is nice but a bit bland imo.

Sylvie is a weird mix between overly cutesy and kind of musty, in my personal opinion.

Juliet is my first choice, so classy and feminine.
Not keen on Vivienne, don't like Vivi.
Sylvia is nice too, I like Sylvie, for short.

Juliet! Really lovely and classic. Personally not so keen on the others which don't sound as classic to me.

Juliet. Feminine without being overly frilly, which I think Vivienne is. I have an overly frilly (to me, anyhow) name and it doesn't suit me.

I do quite like Sylvie.

I love Juliet, sweet and lovely, not over the top so. Don't like the other options at all.

I'd go for Juliet - elegant, pretty and not too common. Vivienne is OK a bit frilly for me and I don't like Sylvie - agree that Sylvia sounds much nicer and fresher at the moment.

All pretty names, but my personal favourite from your list is Juliet, it sounds very elegant!

Vivienne makes me think of the film Pretty Woman and Silvie makes me think of Eastenders (sorry!)

Juliet.

None of them are my kind of names, but Juliet is the nicest by far.

Great choices! Juliet is my favourite but how would you pronounce it? I thought there was only one way until I read something else on here

Juliet is beautiful. I like Vivienne and Sylvie too, but Juliet seems like the most versatile.

What about Renee?

I like Vivien spelled this way. Sylvie is ok, but I'm not keen on Juliet.

Juliet is my favourite.

Vivienne and Sylvie also very pretty.

Vivian more usually used for boys IIRC.

All nice names, my personal favourite is Juliet.

Juliet is easily the best of the three. Smile

Of Vivienne/Vivian, I prefer Vivienne. As others have said, Vivian is traditionally a masculine name. Vivien is nice too, as in Vivien Leigh.

I don't like Sylvie.

Juliet is lovely, Sylvie is cute, and I'm not a fan of Vivienne esp not Viv
