Baby names

Isobel or Madeleine?

Baby girl due next week and we can't decide on Isobel or Madeleine!

Love the nicknames for both names but think I slightly prefer Maddie to Izzy...

Opinions?

I'm not bothered about popularity as have a very common 80s baby name myself and it's never done me any harm 😊

Madeleine.

Isobel/Isabel/Isabelle/Isabella are all very, very popular. Izzys are a dime a dozen.

Madeleine is underused at the moment, and has a much nicer sound, IMO. I also prefer Maddie to Izzy.

They are both gorgeous. I think Madeleine is slightly more unusual if that's a consideration.

Madeleine. Isobel / Isabelle / Isabel / Isabella is incredibly popular.

Love Madeleine. Classy.

Won't necessarily get shortened to Maddie: a little girl I know is only ever referred to by the full "Madeleine".

A French journalist I recently read is Madeleina, with an a ending. I'd not come across that before. Kind of nice, and a bit different?

Madeleine. Every Madeleine I've ever known has been just a lovely person, including my grandmother. Maddy, Maddie, is so much nicer than Izzy. It's a gorgeous, classic name.

Isobel.

Not Izzy / Issy. Way to render a lovely name horrible!

Maddalena (pronounced the same) is quite a well known Italian name, so it's legitimate. May lend itself to mispronunciations though.
