I think it's quite old fashioned but not awful..

I really like it. I do like more old fashioned names and they are all slowly coming back round. Don't hear it often now.

I've always loved it but could never use it because our local accent means it would be pronounced as Root - could not inflict that on the child Smile

I like it :)

Why, I think it's utterly fabulous Grin

I was the only one in both my primary and secondary schools. These were in South London by the way, so I was known as Roof. Something to bear in mind perhaps. I didn't like it at all as a kid, but it has grown on me now.

I don't love it hate it. It's a bit 'beige'!

I'd think you were religious

It looks lovely, it sounds a little bit harsh though.

I like it. It's a bit different, without being too 'out there'. It's a serious grown up name, too - passes the Prime Minister test.

I wouldn't think it was religious - no more so than Rachel or Rebecca or Naomi or all the other Biblical names that have been popular.

I don't like it even though I have a lovely friend with the name.

French speakers pronounce it "Root" as well, which has probably contributed to putting me off the name, as it's such an ugly pronunciation! It might be the same in other accents and languages too - which could be a consideration if you want a name that travels well.

I think its lovely. A real classic that won't go out of fashion.

It's my middle name. I like it more now than I did when I was younger. I now use just my first and middle name on Facebook so I see it a fair bit too

Think it is a lovely name

It was on my baby name list (I had a boy).

I liked it because it's a solid, biblical name and it's not cutesy (doesn't end in -belle or -ie or -y). Also, it's not too common, but the Ruth's I've know have all been very nice people! It's not dated and I think it has a nice sound to it.

I've always loved the name Ruth. I know several lovely Ruths.

Every Ruth I've known has been great, and I like biblical names normally, but this name is on my irrational dislike list. No idea why.

Weirdly, every single Ruth I've ever known has been a butch lesbian. So that's what I associate with it but I appreciate that this is probably just the Ruths that I know Grin

I'm going to be completely honest & say that I don't like it. It's not awful, but it doesn't appeal to me at all.
