Aidan

We had this exact same dilemma last week, and ended up going with Aidan. Both are lovely though smile

peaceloveandbiscuits Sun 30-Oct-16 19:43:44

What swung it for you, taffeta?

WatcherIsInYourNightamares Sun 30-Oct-16 19:44:43

Aiden smile

Pluto30 Sun 30-Oct-16 19:46:42

Aidan.

Infinitely nicer.

FreeButtonBee Sun 30-Oct-16 19:46:52

Aidan. It's closer to the full constanant heavy original Irish. Aidan is a horrific American bastardisation.

<proud owner of a Aidan>

AuntieStella Sun 30-Oct-16 19:49:57

Aidan, like the saint

NapQueen Sun 30-Oct-16 19:52:44

Aidan.

BackforGood Sun 30-Oct-16 19:59:51

See - this is a name I'd avoid, as, as has already been demonstrated, you are always going to get it spelled 'wrongly' by half the population, whichever you decide.

Sophronia Sun 30-Oct-16 20:28:48

Aidan

TaffetaMuttonfudge Sun 30-Oct-16 20:40:50

Peace - we just decided that it looked nicer written, and also at a real push if he wanted to he could potentially shorten it to Dan when he gets older if nothing else. And I understand it's more traditional.

NuggetofPurestGreen Sun 30-Oct-16 20:47:51

Or Aido taffeta grin

I have a 9 week old Aidan. It's a family name for us and we love it. Aidan vote for me... It's the original Irish spelling and the saints name. Not really sure what's the story with the other spelling. And like the pp said I like the Dan in there. It's stronger looking and can be a nn. Just to warn you lots of people will write it Aiden but I just say..oh, No, it's the traditional spelling with an a or, just think Aidan Turner from Poledark...seems to do the trick!

GentleOnMyMind Mon 31-Oct-16 18:27:01

Aidan, it's irish, I know lots of Aidan's and zero Aiden's.

peaceloveandbiscuits Mon 31-Oct-16 18:39:21

I did try to find out which was the traditional spelling, but lots of sources seem to think there's no difference. I think I will go with Aidan. Thank you all!

squoosh Mon 31-Oct-16 19:23:54

All the Irish ones I know are Aidan. Aiden is wrong.

NuggetofPurestGreen Mon 31-Oct-16 21:20:21

The only Aiden I know of is the one in Sex and the City.

weegiemum Mon 31-Oct-16 21:33:49

Aidan. I have one!

DramaAlpaca Mon 31-Oct-16 21:34:47

Aidan.

Aiden isn't authentic & doesn't look right.

TaggieRR Mon 31-Oct-16 21:41:07

Aidan

SprogletsMum Mon 31-Oct-16 21:42:13

I have an Aidan it is the best way, but everybody spells it Aiden it drives me mad because it just looks wrong.
