Dylan

So after MUCH deliberation we agreed a while ago on the one boys name with both like - Dylan. We've been back and forth on the spelling but for some reason I don't like Dillon anywhere near as much.

Bob Dylan's only gone and won a Nobel prize 2 weeks before my due date (selfish..Grin ).

DP is worried that people will think that's the reason we chose the name. I think he's being ridiculous and also that it doesn't matter!

Who is right?!

You are. No-one will realize the coincidence.

Dylan is nicer than Dillon, I agree

Dylan is a gorgeous name and I know a lovely one.

Forget about Bob and go with the name you love.

You could always say it's after Dylan Thomas (which is where Bob Dylan got the name in the first place I believe).

You are. I didn't think of the Bob Dylan connection at all. And even if someone does mention it now, it won't follow your DS through life.

Dylan is a lovely name Smile

Love, love, love Dylan. I have one, and he is gorgeous 😄

Most people won't make the connection, and who cares if they do anyway?

Bizarre thing to worry about, in my opinion.

The only Dylan I know was almost certainly named after Bob, probably a fair few are. But it's a great name anyway so go for it!

Ah great, glad it's had such a nice reception! I honestly didn't care whether I am having a boy or girl except for the fact that I knew it was going to be soooooo much harder to pick a boy name.

I think the original inspiration actually came from Dylan Moran but we probably won't mention that to too many people ;)

Why not? He's really cool, and doesn't have a whiny voice that we all have to pretend is really great when it isn't Grin.

Does anyone actually claim that Bob Dylan has a good voice? He's acclaimed for his song-writing really.

The people I know who love him love his versions of his songs, which suggests they do like his whiny voice.

I think it was Adele who said that he could write a great song but couldn't sing for toffee, which was spot on.

I couldn't name one Bob Dylan song and probably wouldn't recognise him if I passed him in the street. I associate it with Dylan Thomas. I like it.

My nephew is Dylan, I love his name. What have you got for a girl op ?

Report
Squtternutbosch · 20/10/2016 22:43

I had a whole long list of girls names but (and having just re-read my previous post I realise this wasn't clear) we decided to find out what we're having so that we could think of boys names if necessary and, sure enough, there he was flashing his willy at us. So my loooooong list of beautiful girls' names went straight out the window!

Thank you :). It took us a long time and a lot of stress. Now just need to wait for him to turn up (getting impatient!) and make sure it "suits" him, if that makes sense

Don't over think that. I thought Frederick was out because Freddie Flintoff whose real name is Andrew anyway was voted sportsman of the year. What!? who? which year? And that's ten minutes later. By February nobody knows who was sportsmand of the year

Even if people think Bob who cares, he's cool. It's not like you've chosen Bono or Sting Grin

Yeah, Bob Dylan certainly isn't known for his singing abilities. He even said that All Along the Watchtower is Jimi Hendrix's song, despite him writing it.

Dylan is fine. I'd make the Bob connection, but I doubt most people would, unless they're particularly into music from that era.

It's not as obvious as Lennon, Jagger or Hendrix (all naff, IMO).

Haha, just kidding- we've gone for something very traditional, a family name.

Not, that is to say, "Bono". Grin
