Trying to think of both boys and girls names, I like very odd and unusual names that are unheard of. I have Lyndon and Elodie for girls but only Kylan for a boy would like some suggestions on more names for both sexes please?

I don't know if you realise, but Lyndon is a boy's name.

I'm aware, but I've heard so many girls called Lyndon and I love it, prefer for a girl to a boy.

Lyndon for a girl? Are you sure it isn't London?

Lyndon really isn't unisex

Lyndon B. Johnson is the first person who comes to mind when hearing Lyndon. Definitely not feminine.

Lyndon tends to be used in America for girls. Hence why in England it's unusual, which is why i love it. Although now not too sure with the comments, Elodie is still a favourite but I would love to hear any other unusual names you guys have.

Most unusual name for a girl that I've heard is Ildiko. (Norwegian, I think)
think it's a bit ugly myself but you wanted unusual Grin

I like Elodie, but it's definitely not that unusual these days. I know several.
Lyndon is definitely a boys name to me.

Merrick is a boys' name but could work for a girl.

Sylvain for a boy and Sylvie for a girl?

I love Eponine for a girl.

Lyndon is LBJ to me.
I always thought Fairley/Fairleigh to be rare and unusual but I have since met two of them.
Adosinda, Trelawney and Marzan.
Emeric and Audley (boys)
I know a Kylan.
Agree Elodie is becoming very popular.

I find some unusual names lovely even though I prefer the classics Smile

Lyndon means lime tree hill so I don't really see anything particularly masculine nor feminine about it anymore so than any other nature name.

Lyndon is a lot better than Elodie to my ears. It wouldn't bother me is it's a boy or a girl name as it's unusual enough.
Liefe is also either male of female.
Cillian would work for either even though it's definitely a boys name.

Is it linden for a girl? I've just done a Google search and one of the hits was 'linden smells like sperm' 😬

Report
ageingrunner · 28/09/2016 13:15

Linden is a tree/blossom

Agree Elodie isn't an unusual name, if you really want to be unusual I wouldn't use Elodie.

We have an Elodie & a Melody in DS's year at school, they are 7/8.

Off the top of my head I only know of one each of these:

Girls

Genevieve
Robyn
Eedie
Harriet

Boys

Corelli
Junior
Godson

I know a Lyndell who is female, I would say Lyndon is definitely male. One of the most unusual names I have come accross recently was Gunnar for a boy.
