Evelyn
Firstly do YOU pronounce it-
"eeeve-linn"
Or
"Ev-el-inn"
(The latter is what I like)
Is it cute/ old/ crap/ lovely/ nice?
Honest thoughts please.

Eeeeve pronunciation for a boy. Ev pronunciation for a girl. Others might have a different experience of this.

Agree with Sprink.
Personally I'd only use it for a girl, but I like it for either gender.

I find it an awkward name as I'm never how to say it but feel I should know so am embarrassed to ask how to say it.
Wouldn't choose it myself for that reason.

I agree with the above Eeeevelyn for a bit Ev-e-lyn for a girl. It's a lovely classic name. The only thing that would put me off is the number of Evie/Eva etc about.

i pronounce it Ev-el-inn. I think it's a beautiful, classic name with cutsie nickname options.

Lovely name-very nearly used it for dd. I pronounce it ev-el-inn

Didn't realise it was also a boys name!

The author Evelyn Waugh (whose wife was also called EvelynHmm).

I think of it as old-fashioned or posh for a boy. The Ev-e-linn for a girl is very pretty.

I know a real life Evelyn Crabtree. Smile

It seems to have become very popular recently.

I'd pronounce it with 2 syllables. Ev-lyn

E-ve-Lin rather than Eee-va-Lin
My opinions. It's awful.

Eev-lin is also used for girls (like my late aunty). I don't think anyone would use the name for boys nowadays.

I like Eev-lin a lot (because of my aunty and also because I like Eve and Eva -it's possible to shorten to one of these).
Evv-erlin pronunciation is OK I suppose.

I think it is pretty and elegant. Would not be sure on whether to pronounce Eve-a-lyn or Ev-a-lyn, i personally like both pronounciations

Beautiful name. We were going to call a girl Evelyn but we had a boy. We pinched the idea from the character from Pearl Harbour. Its a traditional name that seems to hav

I have an aunt and a great aunt both called Evelyn. Pronounced Ev-el-in.

Lovely name.

I was going to post about Evelyn Waugh's first wife being called Evelyn, but someone beat me to it!

It's lovely in its entirety, but there are millions of Evie's, Eva's, etc, so I would use it on the proviso it's never shortened. Which is difficult with peers once at school.

I know an Ev lyn who is female. I like it but I would never use it for a boy with that spelling.

No. One to avoid. She will be another eve. Eve, as a name, is officially full. Most of the girls in dds class are named a variant of eve - gets very confusing any charm this name had has drained away through over use.
