Polly the Parrott. Don't like it
Ingrid. Harsh
Robyn Very pretty
Henrietta. One of the most horrible names out there.
Alice Nice but tedious
Mary. Is gorgeous and quite unusual for a baby now and There's no better name sake than our lady
Margaret. Gorgeous and unusual for a baby
Faye. Lovely and quite unusual now
Josephine. Gorgeous. Vintage, retro, with still a hip and fresh feel, lots of potential for NNs. Jo, Jo-Jo Josie, Sephie,
Margot. As above
Edith. Not fussed. Like Edie though
Meredith. Harsh
Merryn. Very pretty.
Tabitha. Gorgeous for a kitten.

Lawrence. Awful. I don't get the hype over this name
Rufus. As above
Caspar. Gorgeous
Wilfred. See Lawrence
Elijah
Theodore. Theo is nice
Hector. No
Rafferty No
Ronan No
Hugh No.

So obviously. Favourite out the boys Caspar
Favourite out the girls. Robyn

Thanks all for feedback. It's really interesting to read other people's opinions. DH and I sometimes disagree on names, so it's helpful to have some outside input.

People who like Robyn, do you like that spelling best? I always thought of the Robin spelling as a boy name and Robyn as a girl name but talking to someone recently they said Robin was unisex?

I definitely think Robin is for a boy and Robyn for a girl. It's much prettier with the y.

I'm really like Hector.

It's a good job we are all different I wouldn't think of Polly the parrot but I would think of Robyn the red breast - different spelling I know, but there it is. Don't worry what others think OP it's your child not theirs just go with your favourite. FWIW I know a couple of children with names that are not particularly likeable at the first hearing their friends don't think the names are odd in anyway and the more I've got used to them the more I've got to like them.

No I don't think any of your boys names are nice, Alice is nice

I like Ingrid and Edith but none of the other girls names are to my taste, with Mary and Polly being my least favourite.
What about Marguerite instead of Margaret?

Rufus Hector and Hugh are my favourites with Ronan Rafferty and Elijah way down at the bottom of the pile.

I like Mary (classic), Polly (sweet) and Robyn (I would love to be a woman called Robyn Grin) a lot.

Your boys names aren't much to my taste at all, I'm afraid. Elijah is the only one I like.

Polly - lovely and refreshingly unique. I know a very pretty, sweet little girl called Polly and I love the name.

Robyn - goes beautifully with Emma. Unusual and not overused, yet still classic and recognisable. Love it. (I like both spellings!)

Henrietta - Hate, but then I generally don't like feminine forms of masculine names - it makes me think you wanted a son called Henry, but had a daughter instead so just named her Henrietta. No obvious nice nickname options. This is all just my opinion, though!

Ingrid - Far too harsh sounding for my liking, although strangely, I do like Imogen a lot, which is fairly similar now that I think about it.

Alice - pretty and classic, but to me it's sickly sweet. All the Alices I know are quite boring, and unless you're pretty, blonde, dainty and enigmatic - i.e Alice in Wonderland - I'm not a fan. I did know a very charming Alice with long dark hair, though.

Margot - Classic and pretty - not to my usual taste in names but I really do like it! Much nicer than Margaret, in my opinion.

Mary - Refreshlingly sweet and underused these days, deserves a comeback. I know a lovely little girl called Mary. Undeniably classic with a very obvious namesake.

Faye - Lovely and unusual, very pretty in sound, spelling and meaning. I like the simplicity and elegance that comes with it, and there aren't many girls called Faye nowadays. Goes lovely with Emma.

Margaret - Not a fan. Makes me think of an old woman for some reason. I don't see the elegance in it and I think it's out of fashion for a reason. That being said, if I met a lovely Margaret I can see myself changing my mind, maybe. Maggie and Daisy are lovely nicknames, however.

Edith - Awful. Granny chic and not in a good way. Edie is marginally better and Eden is a lot better. Hate the sound, not a strong name - rather frilly, ugly and weak-sounding to me, I'm afraid.

Josephine - Strongly dislike, though I can't say why. Possibly for the same Henry/Henrietta reason- Joseph/Josephine. I do like Joseph. Don't like any nicknames (Jo, Josie, Phina etc.) apart from possibly Effie.

Meredith - Grey's Anatomy. Not a very pretty name in itself - see Edith. No viable nickname options. Not a fan.

Merryn - See Meredith. Dislike.

Tabitha - Too try-hard for me. Not a fan!

Out of the girls' names my favourites are Faye and Robyn.

Lawrence - Awful. Ugly and old-fashioned, overly pseudo-posh and just not a nice name in itself.

Rufus - Really dislike, mainly because I sat next to a Rufus in primary school who boasted about how his bike was better than mine. My cousin had a rat named Rufus. Horrible name!

Caspar - Lovely name - one of my all-time favourite boys names. Unusual and gorgeous in sound. Please, please use Caspar!

Wilfred - Old fashioned, not a fan - I wouldn't want it to be my name. Will is a nice nickname, though.

Elijah - Love it! Unusual, and Eli is a lovely nickname.

Theodore - Dislike, but love Theo.

Hector - Hate. Ugly in sound.

Rafferty - Hate. Not a pleasant sound and it screams try hard, wannabe posh at me. Sorry.

Ronan - Don't mind it, but Rowan is nicer.

Hugh - Bit middle-aged. Prefer Hugo.

Favourites are Caspar and Elijah! (Please, please, please use Caspar!)

Ingrid and Merryn are horrible names (sorry) I grid isn't nice to say and isn't cute, pretty or cool for a girl. Sounds mechanical. Merryn remind me of Christmas.

Robyn is my fave- pick it!

All boys names are crazy I think they would be teased unless going to a boarding school.

Thanks again all.

To those wondering if boys named things like Theodore, Elijah, and Rufus will be teased or beaten up at school; those names really aren't unusual where I live.

Rafferty... ok, I'll give you Rafferty. It possibly only works in the sort of boarding school we can't afford. Striking it off my list! Thanks.
