Edward or Theodore?

We like both names as they shorten to Teddy but unsure which one to go for - what are your views?

It's good for shortening - Ted, Teddy, Ed, Eddie.

Edward - it's classic, everybody can spell and pronounce it, loads of good nicknames. Theodore is very overused right now.

Theodore is very overused right now

Just thought I should point out that in the 2015 ONS stats, Theodore is number 45 and Edward is number 26.

@chinlo I also though Edward was more common than Theo.

Like both names as both can be shortened to Teddy. I don't like Ed and Eddie much though.

Ed and Eddie are the most common nicknames for Edward so if you don't like those, I think it's to be avoided!

That's interesting - I know 4 Theo's under 3, and no Edwards under 30! I guess it varies a lot by area.

Edward. It has more history as a name used in the UK. Theodore is very newly popular.

Theodore seems to be suddenly popular and therefore a bit faddy.

And Edward is a nicer name.

I really don't like Theodore. But, I don't mind Theodora for a girl, probably because I like Dora. Grin

Edward definitely. There are loads of Theos around-it's very much trending! Teddy is too, but Edward is a more classic name and you can always go for a different nickname if you find there are lots of Teddies in your little one's class in the future
(Sorry, I'm obsessed with names sounding "fresh"!)
