Toby, Robin or Saul?

Which do you prefer:
Toby
Robin
Saul

If you like Toby, would you just call him Toby or would he be Tobias on the birth certificate?

What nickname(s) could we use for Robin other than Rob (which I'm not a huge fan of)?

Would you assume Saul was Jewish?

DH really likes two of the three in the list but I'm leaning towards the other one!

FWIW, my favourite boy's name is Leo, but I can't use it sadly. I also like Maxim (Max for short) but it doesn't work with the surname.

Robin!! I'm expecting and want to use that name but DH not keen. I wouldn't assume it'll be shortened to Rob to be honest. I like Toby but just Toby on birth certificate.

And why would you want a nickname for Robin anyway? Name is lovely as it is.

I love Toby. That's what I wanted to call my DS 12 years ago and I'd still use it now (Ex didn't like it). Just Toby though. I did like Robyn for a girl, but not for a boy.

Do t use robin if you don't like rob. From school age his mates will call him rob and he'll be called rob as an adult.

I like Toby. I would just call him Toby on bc.

Toby, with Toby on the birth certificate. Love it.

I prefer Rob to Robin.

Don't like Saul at all.

Toby or Robin - both lovely, but think Robin just edges it as it's a little less common at the mo.

Love Robin, although I know some people see it as a bit 'wet'. How about Red as a slightly more unusual nickname choice?

Think I'd use Tobias as full name for Toby - actually prefer this to the shortened version

Don't like Saul at all - don't see it as particularly Jewish, just don't much like the sound, which feels a bit harsh to me.

I love Saul - it was on my list for DS but DH poo-pooed it (plus it was a bit of a mouthful with our surname).

I really don't like Toby or Saul. I have an uncle Robin and everyone calls him Rob.

Toby

Interesting, thanks everyone!

Toby is the one I'm leaning towards but DH isn't convinced Sad Here's hoping it grows on him (we have about 5 months to go!)

I like the other two as well so it wouldn't be the end of the world... Just don't want a "Rob" because it's such a popular name for my generation (I've known SO many Roberts called Rob!)

Toby is the only one I like. I'd put Tobias on the BC.

Better call Saul : no.

I prefer Toby, and just Toby, not Tobias.

well sorry, but you did ask.
Perhaps I have known too many dog and horse Tobys.
Saul is great.

The Toby in my class at school was a Toben, also seen Tobin and Torben known as Toby.

Love Robin, just love it.

Actually no, I didn't ask if you know any dogs or horses called Toby!

I think it's quite a rude thing to say, but it won't stop me using the name if I can persuade DH Smile

Saul. Super cool name.
Toby and Robin seem a bit drippy in comparison.

Report
user1471734618 · 16/09/2016 13:38

well you did ask!
Now look , Mitzy has been 'rude' too!
Sorry but if you did not want an opinion you should not have asked.
Since you asked, I agree with Mitzi, and it either sounds like a dog or a really drippy kid.

Saul.

I do find Robin a bit...wet. (Sorry.) Not a fan of Toby.

user The question I asked was "which would you prefer". I don't mind if people say they don't like the name. I don't give a shit how many animals you know with the name.

well I was just saying, that I do not prefer Toby, because it sounds
a. drippy
b. like a pet

Hope that clarifies things for you

Out of your three names, Saul sounds the best.
