Maximus for a boy?

Maximus is my top boy name. Me and my boyfriend love it but everyone we tell it to says 'oh no you can't call him Maximus' as if it's ridiculous. But it shouldn't matter what anyone else thinks really. Maximus, yes or no???

I like it. I knew a Maximillian, also a cool name!

Maximilian is a great name. Maxwell has other connotations. Is Maximus a name?

What if he is small, skinny and a bit of a geek? Would only use if you are certain he will live up to it ( personally not massively keen - Max is ok)

It's very Roman.

Max is nice as a nickname for Maximus.

Father to a murdered son, husband to a murdered wife?

Pretty cool name, though.

My sons mare at pre school is Maksymillian... Yes spelt exactly like that.
It's cute and really suits him.
Maximus tho, I dunno...

I get so angry at spellings like that!

Make sure his middle names are Decimus Meridius 😉

All joking aside, I really like it, and the nn would be Max which is nice too.

He will have his vengeance in this or the next.

Cool name though, I do like it.

Blether and Morning not to slingshot you but that's the Eastern Bloc way of spelling Maximilian Confused

I love it and it was on my shortlist. Day to day they would be known as max anyway.

Yes DS has a Polish boy in his class called Maks, that's how it's spelt in Polish.

I too automatically thought of the Gladiator film and all the quotes that previous posters have come out with - it is a fab film and a very strong character but quite a lot to live up to? If you can stand everybody quoting lines from the film at you and your son for the rest of time next few years, then why not?

However the film was 16 years ago now.

Will the children of this generation know of it as we do?

Could go the whole mile with Maximus Decimus Meridius.

I have a Max and he gets called Maximus all the time. So maybe go with Max and use Macimus as the nickname if you are unsure.

Maximus is a great name and less of a mouthful than Maximillian.

It's definitely a cool name, but it's also quite a big name to pull off. Seconding Maximilian as a potential alternative, or how about just Maxim? I love that, very dashing.

I had idea. Thought it was just a funky new spelling. It's cute either way.

Loving Maxim, very cool... Super cool Infact!

Yes, call him Maximus. People will call him Max, yet if you named him Max, they would probably lengthen it anyway.
