It came completely out of left field and means we'd have to think again about a middle name and I'm all ready to duck at the comments but what's your opinion of Monica nn Moni?

I like it!

One of my favourite girls names. Couldn't have it as we named dd1 Phoebe after JD Salingers " The Catcher in the rye." however had we had Phoebe and Monica then no one would have ever thought it was from anywhere but Friends.

My dd has a really lovely friend (age 16) called Monica. To be honest I often mix up her mother and her names because Monica seems more like her mother's generation and her mum's name is actually more contemporary.

I'm not a huge fan myself but would say oh how lovely and mean it if I met a baby Monica. Not a fan of Moni as a nn - too close to Mono. Prefer the full name.

I like Monica but also not fussed on Mona for Nn although I like Nica as a Nn pronounced
Knee-ka

Not my style, but if you love it that's all that counts. I like that it's a bit different.

Monica is gorgeous and very underused.
I can't see many people not liking it, but. So what if they do. This is your baby.

Monica is very nice. Not sure about "Moni". However in my experience nicknames tend to develop on their own. We call my DD by a completely different shortening of her name than we thought we would.

There's a very nice shortening to my DS's name but he doesn't like it and prefers to be known by his full name.

Nice, normal and underused name. Go for it! The Monica's I know are nn'ed Mon.

Great name - I have only known one Monica and she wasn't British. It's a name which works well in lots of different languages and which is unusual, but not weird.

My aunty and sister are monica so yes an older generation name. I like some older names and personally I like to have a name that isn't used by half the population of the town I live in. I want my kids to go to school and b the only child in his class with that name. I was in the same position as you with 2 of my boys. Worried what others would think. My youngest has the same name as my great uncle who was 80 when he was born. So what what everyone else thinks, if you like it go for it..

I like it. I wouldn't worry what anyone else says as long as you like it. It's a lovely girls name bit weird at all. Names are a personal thing so don't listen to anyone.

Laineymc7 · 05/09/2016 07:27

Sorry not weird at all, predictive text. Monica is the nicest of the two.

I like Monica but not Moni- it sounds a bit like moany. Sorry!

It's inoffensive but not to my personal taste (which is obviously pretty irrelevant). If I had to rationalise why it isn't my taste I would say that it reminds me of a 40 year old woman and Cockney rhyming slang for "name" and Lewinsky. And Moni sounds like Money.

Love it. Went to school with a Monica nn Mivvi. Believe the writer Monica Dickens was called Monty by her family.

If you love it, use it, and actually I think it it's great. Unusual, but not weird, if that makes sense.

Love Monica and erika.

They're kind of normal yet exotic!

Not my style, but also not my baby. To me it's still very much a middle aged womans name. If you like it, use it.

nilbyname · 05/09/2016 08:12

It's a pretty vanilla name- go for it!
