Honest opinions on Kai?

Hi new here!

We both (my husband and I) have a very mixed heritage.

My husband is Japanese/Chinese.

I'm Scottish/English.

It means so many beautiful things, from each different culture. It also works really well in all 4.

What are your honest opinions on the name? It just seems so fresh, handsome and relatively unusual!

I just think of the Rooney's.

It's a great name though.

I think K names have been a bit ruined by the Kardashians and the Rooney's I'm afraid. Personally I don't like it, it seems like a 'sound' rather than a name to me for some reason! its also not that unusual, I know a few little ones where I live.

There's quite a few round here, and there's a definite,erm, K name thing going on.

Their siblings all have fairly unusual names too, so if that's your thing then why not?

Well, Kit sounds American and I've heard it lots more than Kai.

I hadn't heard Kai until the Rooney's.

Maybe it's just unusual where I am! I haven't met one! Might be because it's our first child, so haven't met that many children.

Kai/Kaj is very common in the Scandi countries where it means quay - also the "K" names where your Scandi doctor or professor is likely to be Kristina or Kristian etc

I was going to say that I fear it won't be a popular name on here and you might need to brace yourself for negative views since you've asked for honest opinions.

'Chavvy' is a horrible term to use about a name.

We like Tom and Matt - my husband says they work well in Japan/China. However, people will always assume it's short for something.

I think that it's a lovely name and that you should definitely use it if it has cultural significance to you both.
It's a K name and the Rooneys have one which isn't great. I've met a few little boys called Kai who have been pretty badly behaved but I think it's definitely a nicer name than the Kaydens and Jadens that it might be associated with

I think Kai with that heritage sounds nice. Kai without that heritage is not.

Unfortunately it isn't fresh or relatively unusual though.
