I like it if you are pronouncing it Mar-lay-na

Report
Soubriquet · 27/08/2016 17:25

I like it

How would you pronounce it though?

I said Mar-lay-na but I know some people will say Mar-leen-na

Loyly · 27/08/2016 17:26

I like it as Mar-lay-na. 'Marly' is awful. Marla is really lovely.

Mar-lay-na, yes.

I have a friend called Marlene - Portugese so pronounced 'Marlena'.

She's beautiful and very intelligent.

QueenLizIII · 27/08/2016 17:30

Very pretty pronounced that way

I really like it.

I'm a Marlena Shaw fan.

I thought of the Suzanne Vega song but love it! Marla is very lovely too.

Not keen. I can't help but think of Marlene from Only Fools & Horses (which has to be one of my absolute least favourite programs).

BreconBeBuggered · 27/08/2016 22:24

I like it.

SilveryFoxy · 27/08/2016 22:45

Marlena makes me think of only fools and horses. Love Marla though

I think it is a terrible name Sounds like a 70’s country singer, sorry.

I have to agree with Steviebuns apart from the bit about not liking the programme. Not at all keen myself.

Love it.

Like marla, but not Marlena.

Very 80s. Outdated. Only Fools and Horses.

squoosh · 27/08/2016 23:24

Only Fools and Horses character was pronounced Marleen. Or Mah-leeeeeeeeeeeeeen.

I thought the Marlena on the wall - Susan vega song was about a domestic abuse victim?
Not the happiest song!
My DD is called Mara, I love it & it suits her!

PotatoBread · 27/08/2016 23:37

Marla much better IMO. Like others have stated Marlena makes me think of Marlene in Only Fools and Horses. I would pronounce it Mar-lean-a

Marla is nice but has an unfortunate Donald Trump link.

Marla Maples.

She was one of the lucky ladies he married.

Marlene on the Wall is about Marlene Dietrich franklycurious.com/wp/2011/12/15/the-meaning-of-marlene-on-the-wall/

Rainbow - I think you are thinking of Luca, which is about child abuse.

Back the OP, I like the name.
