Thoughts on Elliot Rose? I'm not sure what other people would think, thank you!

It's very girly. Unless it's for a girl? But I've never heard of Elliot for a girl.

It's for a girl

Elliot is a boy's name and Rose is a girl's name...?

I love Elliot for a girl!

Elliot is gender neutral

I don't like it - for a girl or boy

I'm having difficulty seeing Elliot as a girl's name.

It's perfectly nice on a boy, but not on a girl.

Elliot Rose sounds like you've given your son a girl's middle name.

Sorry, but you did ask for thoughts.

There seems to be a bit of a trend for giving a girl a masculine name (like a surname), followed by Rose to add femininity*. The thing is, people don't go by their middle names on a day to day basis, so it's a bit pointless.

*Thinking about Ashton Kutcher's daughter Wyatt and Jessica Simpson's daughter Maxwell. Both awful.

Traditionally it's very much a boy's name though. If I met an Elliot, I'd assume it was a boy.

Sorry. You did ask for opinions.

Actually, Jessica Simpson's daughter is Maxwell Drew, so that's two boy names.

Apart from the girl from scrubs I think that all the Elliot's I've ever know or heard of have been male or surnames. Sorry OP.
Were you trying to pick gender neutral particularly? If not, Elinor Rose has a similar sound.

I work with children I don't know personally and if I saw it written down I would think either that it was a boy or if I knew it was a girl I would think it was written the wrong way round and should be Rose Elliott (surname)

Elliot from Scrubs is literally the only example of a female Elliot I can think of, so I'm not sure that qualifies it as a unisex name. And isn't there some sort of funny backstory about her parents wanting a boy?

I have never met a girl called Elliot! People will always just assume she is a boy-nursery, teachers, job interviews, hospital appointments etc

I wouldn't do it.

Oh Sad such a shame

I assumed it was a girl, due to the middle name. I like it. She might end up with Ellie anyway, unless you hate shortened names. I think its pretty.

Your surname doesn't begin with a M does it?

Report
ManonLescaut · 18/08/2016 15:49

She will have letters addressed to her as Dear Mr... for the rest of her life.

I have personal experience of this and it's surpisingly annoying.

What about Rose Elliot... (Rose is a much prettier anyway).

I like it - you'd have to keep using the rose to avoid the problems others have mentioned here.
I like it either way.

Agree, Rose Elliott works very well, not Elliott for a first name for a girl. My husband wanted Harper for a middle name for our boy, we had a full on row in the registrars office as I didn't want it. Week later Victoria beckam had Harper. Husband was very grateful I stood my ground!!
