Baby names

Girl shortlist - any other suggestions?

So the baby is probably a girl and we've been thinking about names. Here's our shortlist so far. We like all of them, my favourite is Vivienne at the moment. I'm wondering if anyone has any other names they think we might like too?

If you really hate one of these names if you can keep it to yourself I'd really appreciate it :) Any positives about them I'm happy to hear them in abundance!

Rosalind
Vivienne
Fleur
Dorothea
Josephine

Vivienne is beautiful.
I really like all the names on your list, they're timeless and pretty. However, I am never quite sure how to say "Fleur" and I don't think it sounds nice in my (Brummie!) accent.
Also, think how you would feel about people shortening the name - Viv, Rosa/Rose, Dot, Josie?

Vivienne is very pretty, the pronounciation issue would put me off Fleur tbh. Marianne and Juliette came to mind for me as names in a similar vein.

All these names (except Fleur) have been picked to be shortened, it's not something I'm fussed about :)

I know what you mean about pronunciation, it's a minefield trying to pick names!

All lovely names, though Fleur seems more modern than the others. Whichever one you pick, she's likely to be the only one in her class.

How about Theodora?
Can be shortened to Thea or Dora.
Dd is Theodora and we shorten it to Dora

I absolutely love Vivienne. Love Vivi as a nickname. What about Gwendolen, Miranda, or Juliet? All those feel in a similar vein to your names :)

Vivienne and Josephine are lovely.
How about Rosalie or Jacqueline.

I perhaps wasn't clear about keeping negative opinions to yourself on my shortlist - horrendous indeed!

Thank you for suggestions so far I'll go through the ones that are new to me with dh later :)

I really like Josephine, Vivienne and Rosalind. I also agree that Juliet is a really pretty name. How about Adeline?

I love Josephine! I'd go with that - job done Grin.

I'm not keen on Fleur (sorry) and think you might have people mispronouncing it?

Lovely suggestions above. Especially like:

Margot
Theodora
Adeline
Rosalie

I love your list! I had Josephine and Rosalind on mine, we also had Juliette, Monica and Eleanor.

Another vote against Fleur here, I just think of bleurgh when I hear it, sorry!

Josephine is the winner for me I think, I love Jo on a girl.

Josephine, Rosalind and Vivienne are stunning names with beautiful shortenings.

Fleur sounds gorgeous in a French accent- and only a French accent, unfortunately. Dorothea has pretty shortenings but the whole name is not so nice.

Love Juliet, Adaline and Miranda.
What about Rosaline, Helena (Hel-ay-na), or Genevieve?

My dd is Thea Madeleine. Thea is a shortened name from Dorothea, Anthea and Theodora. She is a Greek goddess of light. We love it because it's not too popular.

Love your shortlist. Fleur does stand out as different to the others though, simply being shorter / one syllable, but if you love it, I think it would make a great middle name with any of them.

Love all except Fleur and Dorothea. I know you don't want negative comments but I feel I need to explain myself! Fleur just seems so weak compared to the other gorgeous names on your list - also I work with one who is in her 60's so perhaps my associations aren't the best, but the others just have so much more personality- I agree good middle name though!

I think Dorothea is just personal taste (and a bit of a mouthful - with shortening like 'Dotty' being a bit cutesy for me).

Love Vivienne and Rosalind, with Josephine not too far behind!
