Edgy and due a come back or just shit and the name of the red head who's been in Corrie since about the beginning of time 1971?

I've always liked it, DH caught between it being very cool indeed and harsh and kind of terrible. Middle name would be Hazel, surname a one syllable very English sounding surname.

Ora

That's one vote for then, Non. Alas, Garden, I'm a big fan of Ora but it unfortunately rhymes with our surname so would make the poor kid sound like they were in a Nursery Rhyme.

Oh god no, I see it as a really harsh old lady name.

Sorry!

Hazel, on the other hand, is lovely.

I adore Rita! Puts me in mind of a glamorous movie star.

I think the Ora was probably in reference to Rita Ora, the British singer and (apparently) actress.

If your surname rhymes with Ora that might make some people do a bit of a double take but I think just shows that the name Rita probably works well with your surname.

Can be a short name for Margarita.

Nice in my brain I was reading and typing "Orla" there. Baby brain.

Don't worry- surname only rhymes with beginning of Ora. Am not mad, obsessive fan.

It's clearly getting mixed reactions! I'm not on the fence, I really like it, but my DH has the casting vote as he's not sure. It's between Rita, Pheobe and Esther we think at the moment.

I like Rita. It reminds me of Rita Hayworth.

Esther is much nicer.

Pheobe is really popular and I always have to stop and think about how its spelt.

I'm in my 50s and for me it's a name that belongs to my mum's or even my granny's generation, but of course for anybody having a child now the associations are probably quite different. I can't stand it, personally, but that has a lot to do with my loathing of most abbreviations and variants of my first name. I don't know if Rita is worse than Maggie or Greta or Margery, but it's up there.

If you're after Hollywood glamour, how about Audrey or Lana or Ingrid or Merle or Gloria? Ava and Grace have become very popular so might not appeal so much.

A name that came into my mind the other day is Kezia. A schoolmate of one of my children has that name. She'd be in her early 20s now. I think it's lovely.

"Lovely Rita, meter maid".
Different for Sikhs, though. Rita goes with/might be part of/short for some Sikh names.

I like it a lot. Pretty, stylish in a vintage way and underused.

Not Rita ! Brings back memories of the lady across the road from us . She always had her hair in rollers and a fag hanging out her mouth !
