NisekoWhistler Wed 10-Aug-16 13:39:05

biscuit

Names123 Wed 10-Aug-16 13:43:49

What does that mean?

FaithAscending Wed 10-Aug-16 13:45:35

Honestly? It says stripper name to me. However, if you love it, you should use it. You'll only associate it with your baby!

Buttwing Wed 10-Aug-16 13:54:55

Have you seen finding dory that's just come out? Destiny is a dozy whale in it that keeps bumping into things. I'm sorry but I don't love it.

bombayflambe Wed 10-Aug-16 13:56:16

Having seen 'Finding Dory' this week, I'd say no.

CalmItKermitt Wed 10-Aug-16 14:04:07

Lovely. Have you considered spelling it DesTnee?

Names123 Wed 10-Aug-16 14:06:02

Sorry, I haven't seen Finding Dory. Are you joking Calm? I honestly just thought we had found a nice name and was running it was a few strangers sad I'll keep looking I guess

lanbro Wed 10-Aug-16 14:06:40

I know a Destiny, named after the nightclub her parents met in.....

MissBattleaxe Wed 10-Aug-16 14:07:39

I think it's a bit tacky sounding, sorry. Just my opinion.

AndNowItsSeven Wed 10-Aug-16 14:08:27

Yeah it's a gorgeous name for your bubz Hun.

kitchenwitchen Wed 10-Aug-16 14:08:48

Chloe from CBB has a daughter called Destiny. Fun fact!

PuppyMonkey Wed 10-Aug-16 14:08:56

I heard this being shouted painfully loudly in my home town recently: "Desti-neh!!!! cum eee-yurrr."
Translation: "Destiny come here."

Now a running joke with my family when we're shouting each other in from the garden for tea or etc. *childish.

So it's a no from me, sorry.

Buttwing Wed 10-Aug-16 14:09:43

Puppy think you live near mewink

FuzzyWizard Wed 10-Aug-16 14:10:14

I've taught a couple of Destinys in the past. Lovely girls. I think it's a perfectly nice name.

PuppyMonkey Wed 10-Aug-16 14:14:40

Buttwing - East Mids? grin

BuntyFigglesworthSpiffington Wed 10-Aug-16 14:22:31

Apparently Miley Cyrus is actually a Destiny (don't ask me how I know this!). It does sound a bit exotic dancer-ish. Or maybe evangelical Christian. Which is an odd mix really.

SteviebunsBottrittrundle Wed 10-Aug-16 14:23:05

I don't really like it, but I've definitely heard worse! If you love it, it doesn't matter what everyone on here thinks --ignores that this is the whole point of the baby names board--smile.

SteviebunsBottrittrundle Wed 10-Aug-16 14:23:28

Ugh strike through fail^^ blush.

Names123 Wed 10-Aug-16 14:31:58

We're African American and lots of our friends and family (huge family) and church groups have used names we like (Faith, Hope, Grace) no one had used Destiny

BuntyFigglesworthSpiffington Wed 10-Aug-16 14:34:24

I'd put it in the same category as Nevaeh. Although it's not as bad as Nevaeh.

TheDropBear Wed 10-Aug-16 14:34:57

It's Miley Cyrus' birth name, she legally changed it at 16. If even a celebrities kid can't pull off a name it's one to avoid.

EmpressOfTheSevenOceans Wed 10-Aug-16 14:38:49

In that case this might be a cultural difference. Are you in the UK?

bombayflambe Wed 10-Aug-16 14:42:58

Destiny is a bit more Woo than Faith, Hope, Grace which are clearly Christian.
If you want something with a distinctly American feel but not a whale what about Serenity, Harmony, Clemency ? I have American friends with DCs with these names. Chastity or Charity would follow the same pattern I guess but I don't know any.
