What can Em be short for?

It may sound silly but I just love the nn Em.

I really like Emma but wanted some other options.
I like Emily as well but DH not so keen.

So what other names can Em be short for?

The first E in Emer is pronounced with a long E, so eee-mer, rather than with an "em" sound at the beginning.

Emmet? Fgs, that's surely not a girl's name, it's the Cornish derogatory term for a tourist, or an old word for an ant. Grin

Emyr for a boy? A Welsh name.

I don't know why you would name a baby to just call it 'Em'...

The Em I know is Ember but I love Emmeline

MsVTired in the same way Katherine gets Katie, Alexander gets Alex, Jonathan gets Jonny, Camilla gets Millie, Stephanie gets Steph.. ?
Personally I am a fan of nn's. I know many people aren't. A friend of mine chose names for her 3 that are deliberately very hard to shorten or make nn's out of but I like them and I like Em.

Thanks everyone. Emmeline is lovely. I think I still love Emma the most but will keep searching for now :)

If you love Emma and Em why try and shoehorn Em into another name?

I have an Emma. We call her... Emma. No need to shorten it!

I chose a long name for my son with the intention of always calling him by the shorter version. When he was born I announced it as 'Zac, Zachary for long'

I saw the name Emrys on here recently which I thought was pretty but quite strong too

It's welsh and means 'eternal'
