Little boy is nameless!

Ok, our little boy came early and doesn't have a name. Shortlist below. We're in Ireland and are veering towards an Irish name but not sure - opinions from Irish mumsnetters particularly welcome:

Faolan (means little wolf, I like the idea of having a little wolf...) pronounced fway-lawn
Sebastien - probably with nickname Seb
Art
Rian

I like Faolan, I've never heard it before.

Definitely the wolf one!

Congratulations on your little boy! I'm Irish and think Faolan is a fantastic name. My second favourite from you list would be Art, for its sheer simplicity.

Fergal. That is all.

So far, Faolan is slightly ahead! Thanks for the opinions. I like fergal but can't use it. Any more thoughts welcome!

ok what about Fergus?

I'm Irish - never heard of Foalan. Think you'll spend a lot of time explaining how to pronounce/spell it TBH. It sounds nice though.

I love Art and Rian.

Fway-lawn? Dear lord, no.

Scottish not Irish, how are you pronouncing Rian? Is it like Ryan or like Ree-ann?

I like Sebastian the best I think. I like Art but I would have Arthur I think with Art for short.

Suggestions:
Sylvester
Ciar
Cormac
Shey

Rian is on my dh's list, I think it's ree-in, Ryan being a different name.
Without a fada over the second a, it would be fway-Lin, not fway-lawn. One of fionn Mac cool's sons, ds1's name comes from the same set of stories (although is much much better known) so there's a link there

Oh, and I like cormac but not sure if it's a bit of an old man name (maybe it's just via I know an old man with that name!)

I like Cormac!

I also like Art. I think it's nicer as a short form for Arthur, but it could work as a stand alone name. There's the author Art Spiegelman, after all...

I like Art. Dawn O'Pprter and Chris O'Dowd s son is Art.

Sebastian

I like Art.

Rían is one of those names that is suddenly really popular all of a sudden in Ireland. I'm not feeling Faolán at all.

Sebastian is nice and a very normal name nowadays in the UK but I imagine in Ireland you'll get a few 'oh that's a fierce fancy name' in a 'they must have notions about themselves' kind of way Grin

I like Aidan spelt like this (not Aiden). Cormac is very cool!

Art is great. Short, bold and effortlessly cool. Congratulations OP!

Ah, more confused than ever! Dh is saying no to cormac and is dubious about art. I think it might be a contest between Faolan and Sebastien/Seb. The surname can take either name (ie it wouldn't be sebastien Murphy or anything like that) but definitely think some people would think sebastien a weirdly posh choice!

Faolan appeals to me! I've never seen it before! I love it when I see it written down, I think I'd need help pronouncing it though.
