Please help me find a name... Unisex names...

Or boys names that can be used for a girl (including as an adult woman!). Tradititional, preferably old (biblical, or possibly old English, or similar, or diminutive of those) not American, not unique...

The two names that most closely fit this bill so far are Sam, and Jamie. Neither of which are possible for good family reasons.

Other thoughts are Eddie, Charlie, or Phil. But I don't like the female versions of those names, so it would be the short form only. Would that be ok?

Other ideas?

Phineas

Meaning: oracle

In the Bible, Phineas was a priest. While this unique moniker might seem like a quirky name choice, it actually has a popular (and common) nickname: Finn.

Julia Roberts also famously chose this name for her twin son, however, she chose a more unique spelling: Phinnaeus.

I think Finn/Fynn would work for a girl too.

Adriel

Meaning: God is my master

Goodbye Adrian, hello Adriel! This name almost has a mythical feel to it because of its sound. In the Bible, Adriel was King Saul’s son-in-law and King David’s brother-in-law.

I think this would make a nice girl's name too.

Lauren is a unisex name.

I thought Lauren was just a girls name? Be careful with Lauren/Laurence if you have family or work in France where Laurence is a girls name and Laurent is the male equivalent.

Finn for a girl could be short for Fionnuala

Ooh, thanks everyone.

What do people think of Eddie or Phil?

Would Finn be ok as it is, or do you think you need a 'proper' / long version too?

Is Phil really unisex?! That's one of the most manly names I know!

Is female Eddie pronounced the same or different to the male one? Would you mind?
Have never heard of a female Phil, don't know a Philippa or Philomena either though though obviously they exist.

I think Finn is fine.

Personally I'm not keen on short versions of names on birth certificates, Eddie could be good but to me feels like it should be short for something. Anything to do with names is so subjective though so I'd do what feels right to you.

Beverley (that's a good old traditional one)
Riley
Chris
Mac (Mackenzie, Malcolm etc)
George/Georgie
Harry

Phil is lovely, the Railway Children has a girl in it called Phil and I don't think it's ever mentioned what her full name is. Finn works fine by itself, I can think of Finnula if you wanted a longer version.

Lauren was a boys name until Lauren Bacall took on the name and became a big star. It is now a unisex name, used by girls mostly but still unisex. I actually think as a boys name it's so different and refreshing!

Oh I forgot about Phil from The Railway children, but she was a Phyllis
