Opinion on the name Blake (for a boy)...

DS2 is a week old and still has no name. The only name on DH's shortlist is Blake. I'm not convinced, I'm not sure i like the 'bl' sound! I fear if we don't go with it, poor DS will forever remain nameless... what do you guys think of the name?

God no! It's bloody awful. So many nice names out there, why saddle him with that?

That's what i thought Confused

At least i can show this to DH!

Any suggestions then? DH doesn't like 'old fashioned' or religious names, sibling is Leo...

My current favourite is Max

My my ...

It reminds me of the poet William Blake. Whose work and philosophy in his day and age, I admire.

Well, it appears I am in the minority but I love the name Blake. A close family member is Blake and its a great name for a boy.

I like Blake.

It was a short list for a boys name for me 6 years ago but then I had a DD Grin

No.
He was a character on home and away in the early 90's. And it's horrible. Sorry.

I think it's ok

If his surname is Carrington, Blake will do wonderfully.
Or you could call him Sayer, and have Leo and Sayer in the family.
Or go for Theo. Leo and Theo. Or Neo.

Jacob? With the NN Jake. Similar to Blake, but without the 'b' sound.

Dislike (sorry). I hate the phrase 'try hard' but I think it is a bit...

Otis on the other hand is just lovely.

Leo is my favourite boy's name. Who picked it, you or DH? Or both?

I like Max too, and it goes well with Leo. What does your DH say about Max?

What other names are on your shortlist? Do you like James, Robin, Saul, Toby...

Report
LadyAntonella · 07/06/2016 20:10

I also love Leo.

cecilelliott · 07/06/2016 20:12

I actually really like Blake, and know a very sweet 3 year old with that name!

Max and Leo are nice names too, although quite popular at the moment- you wouldn't have the "2/3-in-a-class" problem with Blake I imagine! I like the suggestions of Robin and Saul (There are lots of Tobys around at the moment too)
Good Luck!
