Baby names

Mabel or Beatrix?

Found out we are having a little girl yesterday. A little sister for Charlie (brother) and Tilly.

A bit undecided on names. We had originally picked Esme but after the scan both me and dh said we liked the name but didn't want to use it.
Dh loves the name Mabel and thinks we should call her this, whilst I really like it I also like Beatrix.

Which name do you prefer, and which goes best with siblings?

I love Beatrice so would go with Beatrix, I know Mabel is making a comeback but I can't get past the blue peter dog!

Beatrix, definitely. Trixie is a cute nickname.

I can't help but feel sorry for Mabels.

Beatrix.

Not massively keen on Trixie, but it is sweet and I like Bea.

Mable is getting a bit overused in my neck of the woods.

I'd rethink both, tbh. Mabel and Beatrix both just sound dowdy, and I knew several poodle like dogs called Trixie.

I think Mabel is a great name! Charlie, Tilly and Mabel sounds right. I find Beatrix too 'clumpy' to say - doesn't roll off the tongue as nicely.

I think Mabel goes better with Charlie and Tilly

Is Tilly short for Matilda? I wouldn't choose the same initials and prefer Beatrix anyhow. I think Harriet (Hattie) would work well with sibling names.

I'd rethink both personally.
However, gun to my head I'd have to pick Mabel. I dislike it, but I dislike Beatrix more.

They are both fab names. Dd2 is Beatrix. We call her Bea or BB for short. Toddler Dd1 saying baby BB is the sweetest thing. We get lots of compliments. Btw, I don't like mabes for short. Great Grandma's carer calls her Mabes, I hate that.

I would probably go for Beatrix but I don't like the 'trix' at the end much (ends up sounding like quite a hard name) so I'd have Beatrice and call her Bea - which is sweet. And softer sounding all around. Plus you already have a 'T' in Tilly so you would then have a Tilly and a Trixy. Better to have a Bea.

I know a 6 year old Mabel. It grows on you but I wouldn't say I like it that much. I would have May or Belle has a nickname (Tilly and Belle sound great together!) ... but then if you did you may as well pick another name.

Google Stan and Mabel and listen to the wonderful story that follows.
