Athena?

DH saw a film last night with a character called Athena and loves it for our baby name (if it's a girl). All I can think of is the poster shop where they had the picture of a naked man holding a baby. Am I being daft?

I know an Athena. Very pretty name in my opinion.

Poster shop, although that obviously won't be a connection her contemporaries will make.

I think it's gorgeous; have no idea what the 'poster shop' is.

Greek goddess. Bit pretentious unless you're either Greek, or v posh

This was the poster shop sign if it jogs anyone's memory.

DH had never heard of it!

Still no idea about the shop. I'm 26 and dp is 31 and neither of us remember if that helps.

I've never heard of the poster shop.

The name isn't to my taste but if a friend named their DD that I would think it lovely.

One of my dearest friends is an Athena. I am old enough to remember the poster shop but don't make the association. I think it's a beautiful name.

I know two girls called Athena. It's fabulous, but I'm bias, I love Greek/Roman god/dess names. Grin

We can't have it because if you combine it with our surname it really doesn't work.

It just makes me think of the 80's poster shop and that print of the woman hitching up her tennis skirt.

Yup. Poster shop. If I could get past that, it's a nice name. But "poster shop" as my first thought when I heard it.

I really like it: pretty sounding and makes a refreshing change from the humdrum 'same old' names about. No idea about the poster shop?!

Poster shop. Makes me think of that poster of the topless man and the baby that was always in the window!

I'd forgotten all about the poster shop but remember it now you've posted it. It was definitely around in the 90s too.

I wouldn't think of it as a current association though. I know a couple of Athenas and it's never popped into my head.

Also know an Athene (A-thee-nee) if you want to avoid the poster thing.

Poster shop, loved it then though, would you believe mum still has the man and baby poster in her porch Grin

It's a lovely name these days, her friends wouldn't make any connection

Gorgeous - Greek name. And I remember the poster shop but it's not the first thing I think of.

A family member has this name and was a teenager in the poster shop days and no problems. I think only people of a certain age would make that association - whoever she goes to school with will have no idea! I love it but am obviously biased

I remember the poster shop (I think you have to be 35+) but the name doesn't remind me of it as such. Really gorgeous name.
