Hello,

I'm looking for a name that's pretty, but sensible. I adore the name Grace, but I know it's super popular, so it kind of loses its magical feel Sad

I quite like Harmony, but the shortening 'Harm' isn't pretty at all!

Melody is lovely, but I don't know if it's right for a name? Opinions?

Love the name Faye (I prefer the idea of Fay, but I think Faye looks nicer).

I hope you can get a feel of the names I am on about!

I know it's a bit silly to limit my use to 'pretty' names, but I suppose that's my style for a girl. Even if she turns into a 6 ft rugby player!

I think it's because I've had 4 boys! I was just as happy for a 5th though Smile they're all wonderful. Their names are rather popular, but I think I like that on boys.

TIA! x

Faye is nice too but prefer Melody. Don't like Harmony (sounds medical to me - like my symphony breast pump ha)!

Melody us beautiful. Ive known 2 adult Melodys and it suited them both. One was always Melody and the other was known as Melo which really suited her.
If she turns out to be a tom boy she can always go by Mel as well so it's quite versatile.

I wanted Elodie for our little one but hubby hated it! Loved that you could shorten it to Ellie, Ella, Deedee...

Harmony and Melody remind me of the girls from The Queen's Nose! Not a bad thing, both very pretty and sweet.

I've always really like Unity, but my interest in the Mitford sisters tainted it a bit!
And Hope I think is beautiful and not too popular.

It would never occur to me to shorten Harmoney to Harm. Think I prefer it to Melody though both are nice

I like Faye too. Freya is a similar one that's very pretty.

We don't have one Grace in my DS and DD's school - is it really THAT popular compared to any other name in the top ten? I would still use it tbh if you love it that much. I think it's a hugely popular middle name (bit like Rose) but not quite as common for a first name.

Other then that Faye or Fern is nice but I'd still go for Grace :)

Imagine you're called Melody or Harmony & you have the most crap singing voice, perenially off key like me. I dunno, they are pretty names, but could be setting kid up for a fall.

There are 2xGrace in DS's yr3 group, 45 kids.

Brings to mind the five Spectrum Angels out of Captain Scarlet:

Destiny, Symphony, Melody, Harmony and Rhapsody.

I used to wish I were called Harmony and my sister wanted to be Rhapsody. Destiny and Melody have already made it into the real world as names so why not Harmony?

Carmen? It's Latin for song and so fits with the strong but pretty idea. I've just posted this name on another thread so bear with me if you've read that one too! It just sprang back into my mind but we can't use it as an old friend called her dd this- but I've always thought it was beautiful so would be lovely if someone else could use it! Coral has a similar ring to it for me.

On a similar note, I always think these celtic names are strong sounding while still having a feminine beauty to them.

Cerys
Eibhlin (ive-leen)
Niamh
Aoife
Catriona
Eithne
Maeve

Good luck - let us know what you choose!
