Yes, in the UK Confused oh dear, I feel like it's not going to be liked! I thought you'd find it super pretty (like us)

My middle name is Joy. I like it, it matches with my first name.

Not too keen on heavenly though.

Well, it is pretty but it does sound fairly out there to a British ear. If you have for example a Nigerian cultural background I think it would be accepted without question but otherwise it might raise some eyebrows. (Which is fine if you a prepared for that)

Can you imagine shouting it across the park/supermarket?

Can you imagine a shy 16 year old, a 40 year old policewoman, a 60 year old accountant with that name?

If so go for it. If not what about Celeste, Celine or Lani - all mean 'Heavenly'.

There are worse namesakes. This kid is seriously cute.

I kind of like it.

A teenager wouldn't thank you for that name, they would have a horrendous time at secondary school. Joy is lovely but not teamed with heavenly, it's just overkill.

No!
Joy is nice though.

If you aren't of Afro Caribbean origin, I think it's odd, but if you like it....

The problem with heavenly is that it's an adjective, not really a name (in most cultures). It's a bit like naming a child Gorgeous or Adorable.

I'm a lawyer and if I had to announce myself on the phone as Heavenly Jones, I'd be embarrassed, tbh.

OTT.

Joy is lovely but unsure of it with heavenly... Sorry! Could you not look for a name that meant 'heavenly' www.baby-names-meanings.net/meaning/heaven.html

wizzywig · 27/04/2016 05:12

Umm no. But obviously its your choice

Awful. Poor child.

Unless there's a cultural reason for choosing it, it's really not great. Joy is lovely.

I like Joy but not Heavenly.

Way ott for me.

Sorry.

Joy is nice. Heavenly is awful, sorry.

Please don't.

If you want a 'heavenly' theme, how about Aurora/Zoe (both meaning 'dawn'), Lucia/Clara ('light'), Seraphina (sounds like seraphim), Claudia pronounced cloudier Wink , gawd even Skye would be better than Heavenly.

Or Felicity Joy? (Joy is nice, btw).

Awful name. Even if it is cultural there must be something better you could choose

Joy is nice.

I don't want to be nasty but Heavenly just sounds a bit silly to me. I used to work with a Blessing and a Prince (both Nigerian if that matters). "Hi, I'm Prince / Blessing" sounded like an introduction. Can you imagine having to say "hi, I'm Heavenly"? It's like saying "hi, I'm wonderful". Mind you Rich is an accepted nn I guess, but still.

Evelyn Joy sounds similar

Do you know what? I absolutely fucking love it OP and I'm usually of the Katie Hopkins school of thought for baby names. Big thumbs up from me and personally I'd love to answer the phone with a "heavenly jones, yes, I was just reading your brief...". Smile
