Opinions please Smile

Nn would be Winnie.

Also like Magdalene but not keen on any of its shortenings (Mags, Maggie, Maddie, Magda, Lena)

It's quite a grand name, and I don't particularly like Winnie. It makes me think of Winnie The Witch.

What about:

Genevieve
Constance/Connie

Genevieve is my name
I don't like Constance or Connie.

Thanks for replying though

I love it Smile

Not sure how you get Winnie from Genevieve but you can use whichever no you like.

Might that be a bit of a mouthful for your partner/parents/in laws having two names kinda similar?

I like Guinevere but I don't like Winnie, sorry. It reminds me of Winnie the Pooh or the noise a horse makes!

I would have thought Jenny or Gina would make more sense as nns.

I love it!

Really?

The G is a hard one so quite unlike Genevieve, I go by Jen anyway.

Any thoughts on Magdalene? Do you think it would definitely end up being shortened to something awful?

I know one called Guin. I like it.

I love it but not keen on Winnie and no other shortenings leap out at me.

Really like Magdalene too, I'd probably use Laney as a nn

How about Gwendoline?

Guinevere is an amazing name (it was on our list but we bottled it!)

Not keen on Winnie as a nickname, we would have shortened to Evie.

Smilemy best friend at primary schools name. She was Ginnie.

Guinivere was on our list. I have an unusual name and hated it and we plumped for something simple and classic. DD is 17 and hates her simple, classic name. Her response to Guinivere "are you two fucking mental?

Beafort

It's interesting; i also have an unusual name, and I'd reject Guinevere for that same reason - unusual, accusations of 'poshness', and difficult to spell

OP

What about:

Gabrielle/Gabriella
Gisele
Margot
Vivienne
Antonia

I love it, I think it's beautiful.

What about Gwyneth which could be shortened to Gwyn or Gwynnie?

Report
Twooter · 17/04/2016 07:55

I actually read the two names as the same until I retread your first post. Think it could get confusing with them so similar but not the same.

I think precisely because it's so unusual it would take you straight to the Arthurian legends as an association. Am a massive fan of the legends but Guinevere isn't the association Id choose for my DD.

What about Jennifer which is the Cornish version of the name? Or if you want Winnie as a daily name, Winifred?

Sophronia · 17/04/2016 08:11

I really like it

Guinevere is brilliant. I think Clive James ( writer ) has one, btw.

Thank you all for your replies.

I do still like Guinevere and not overly keen on any other suggestions apart from Vivienne which is likely belt.

DP likes Mariella/Marielle so now that's up for consideration.

It's a good job we've got a few months left to choose! Fifth baby and it gets more difficult each time unfortunately

Thank you.
