Hello

Just thinking about boys names and have put together an initial list. Your favourites/least favourites/hate that with a passions/alternative suggestions would be received.

I'm not particularly in love with any of them, and possibly will dislike them all next week, but I need to start somewhere!

Thank you in advance!

Eddie (not Edward, which I'm not keen on for some reason)
Elijah
Toby
Fletcher
Owen
Jed
Lloyd
Mark
Sullivan
Saul

Eddie - perhaps you could use this with Edmund on the birth certificate?
Elijah - OK, but will date
Toby - my favourite from your list (though should really be Tobias on the BC)
Fletcher - dreadful
Owen - OK
Jed - More of a nickname
Lloyd - a surname
Mark - OK, and there aren't many little Marks around at the moment
Sullivan - I quite like it, though it does sound a bit like a surname
Saul - OK

Thanks Snuffle and Soft.

I don't like Edmund at all, so it would be Eddie on certificate which I feel would be a bit strange.

What would Jed be a nickname for? In the West Wing Jed Bartlett was a Josiah - is that the only longhand name? (Maybe Jedward perhaps? Grin)

How about Edwin instead of Edward?

Love Toby (Tobias) and Saul.

Other suggestions:
Seth
Dexter
Flynn
Jarred (jed)
Jacob
Evan
Jonathen
Scott

I have a Toby, it's my favourite name Smile

I like Toby and Mark best from your list.

I'm begging you not to use Fletcher as it is awful.

Jedward Grin Grin

Not sure what Jed would be short for, but it just doesn't sound complete.

Edwin is okay but I don't like it as much as Eddie. And in-laws refuse to abbreviate certificate names to the short versions - even when everyone else does inc the person in question. So if I wanted my child to be called Eddie but named him Edwin they would always call him Edwin which would really irritate me!

Maybe I just need to scrap Eddie.

I do like Evan a lot - that has now been added to the list. Thanks 228!

Love Toby and Marc with a 'c'. I'm not one for alternative spellings but I really like it.

Like you, I don't like Edward or Edmund but love Eddie.

I found boys names hard. I quite like Patrick, Stuart and Finn.

Eddie is great and you absolutely do not need a full name for the birth certificate. That's very much an 'otherwise how can he ever be a High Court Judge??!!' MN thing.

Also love

Owen
Jed
Sullivan and
Saul

Mark is dated and boring. Toby is wet. Lloyd is just bad. As is Fletcher (but I hate those kind of names, Cooper, Harper, Archer etc).

Jed could be short for Jedidiah or Jared.

I like Owen, Mark and Saul.

I love Elijah and Saul, and don't think biblical names ever date. Also like Toby.
Not keen on the others, except Eddie which I love but only as a shortened version of a full name Edward, Edmund or Edwin.

Eddie is okay. A million miles from being the nicest boys name, but equally, A million miles from being the worse boys name.
Elijah. No. It's starting to be like the Jack of the 1990s. Theyve everywhere.
Toby. Is gorgeous, and AFAIK, well to be best of my knowledge is not too common, yet. I've personally never heard of any, but different regions ect might be different.
Fletcher. No. Im not sold on surnamey names.
Owen. Is okay, but even if I was graced with 10 dsons. It wouldn't even be a reserved contender for any short list.
Jed. Same as above
Mark. Is gorgeous, and very unheard of now on a baby. If you're looking for something "out there" then, Definitely go for Mark, as. There certainly won't be many of them running around on the play ground.
Saul. No it's like Paul gone wrong.
Lloyd. No it's horrible
Sullivan. As above, and what I said about Fletcher.

Ah I like the idea of Gabriel but I always mispronounce it (by saying Gabrielle) and have to correct myself. Probably not an ideal choice for me in that case!

Sullivan, Fletcher, Lloyd and Toby are awful imo.
Saul is nice enough,I personally can't separate it from Better Call Saul but that will be forgotten.
Jed - meh, bit of a sheepdog name
Eddie - not just as Eddie. He might hate it, at least with Edward/Edgar etc he has a few choices.
Owen - yup, grand
Mark - grand, I've taught a few recently but still unusual these days
Elijah - I really like but it will definitely date

Thanks Iora. Not heard of Better Call Saul so that association doesn't mean anything to me.

I'm not too worried about giving him alternatives to Eddie if he hates it as there are plenty of names which give no options for alternatives but which the child might hate.

I think Owen, Eddie, Mark and Evan are my top 4 at the moment. One day I may even run them past OH!
